(Beta of Dark Moon Pack)Gabriel Pov
The hall was desolate and quiet. Even I, Gabriel, his most loyal representative, do not dare to lift my head. Lifting his head slowly, he scans every one of the council members with his eyes. His gaze lingers on me for a few seconds and I proceed. Carefully, lifting myself off the chair, I stood up to announce the news. I had seen the parcel letter and for once I wished I wasn't his assistant, but there was no use keeping this news away from him, he would still find out about it and I would be the one to blame.
With quivering legs, I moved over to the podium closest to his majesty and started presenting the reasons for today's meeting.
"Alpha Raziel, the Alpha of Silver Moon pack, has brought an interesting document."
He stops licking his paw and lifts his scary gaze towards me, eyes so calm, the perfect definition of the calm before the storm. Always calculated, he has remained undefeated. I buckle my knees together because I know fully well the capability of those calm eyes.
"What does it say?"
Sweat drips down my back and I nearly faint. Of all the news, why this one? I am not ready for an early grave just yet and I have a family to cater for. I am brought back to my senses when he looks at me again.
"Alpha, it, it-, is, it is, a,m-, ma-, marriage treaty."
I see the sharp glint that flees past his gaze, his neck angling a little to the side, ears perking up nattily. It is so fast and if I did not know him well, I would have proceeded stupidly with my presentation. Giving him the space he needs, I go mute waiting for his next sentence, a go-ahead to continue.
The whole hall goes eerily silent and I can feel the eyes of everyone in the hall. I try not to shiver but I have soiled my underwear already. I gulp when he straightens his position.
He walked majestically from where he sat, moving down to the podium and chuckling darkly. I can hear my heartbeats pounding loudly in my ears.
The whole hall goes eerily silent and I feel the eyes of everyone in the hall. I try not to shiver but I have soiled my underwear already. I gulp when he straightens his position.
"On what ground does that agreement hold? Is Leon becoming bolder or does he want to tie me down? Does he want to stir up a war?
"Alpha, he says you got his daughter pregnant, hence the reason for the treaty."
"Decline, move to the next agenda. I do not have time for nonsense, and this should be the last time this topic is brought to my notice. Do you understand me?"
"Yes sir." I let out a deep breath, one I didn't realize I was holding, thank the moon goddess, I'm alive. I really won't hold this position in old age. I'll die before my time. Thinking about my leaving reminds me of recruitment.
"Alpha, this week is supposed to be for the recruitment of new council members."
"Hold on, who is Leon's daughter?"
My hands started vibrating. I was so happy we got over this topic. Why are we back here?
"Leon's daughter is Casandra, the heir apparent to the Silver Moon pack. He leans back and continues licking his paw," What do you think of the treaty?", I don't know if this is just a trap or an actual genuine question, but I will not fall for it. I throw the question to the council, I will not be the only one suffering.
"The treaty is not so bad, Your Highness. We have a strong alliance, land, and full royal blood, plus your request is granted."
"Ah, so finally he agrees to the shares of my demand. We could have done it this way a long time ago, couldn't we?" I shut my mouth knowing fully well this is not my queue to talk.
"Accept the marriage then, we have a deal." He said, standing up as he proceeded to leave the hall.
"Sir, the recruitment process" I hesitantly brought up.
"Handle it yourself, I believe you can do that yourself". I do not dare to admit straight to his face that I would rather him handle the project himself. I love my life, a huge deal for that matter.
The council dismissed all of Alpha Raziel's duties on my cranny shoulder. I need to see Alpha Leon and inform him about Alpha Raziel's decision, relay Alpha Leon's message to Raziel, and finish everything that concerns the engagement. Recruitment is one heck of a duty. I'd have to select, screen, and prepare for the recruitment test, all by myself. The work just kept on piling up. I really can't wait to go home to my family, but first I need to see Alpha Leon.
The road to the White Wolf Pack was just on the outskirts of the borders and not so far from the Black Wolf Pack, my pack. I quickly drafted a letter of agreement, ignoring the rude remarks and haughty words Alpha Raziel had used during the meeting. It doesn't take me up to a good fifteen minutes before I finish drafting the letter of agreement and start heading to the silver moon pack. Not long after I started my journey, I arrived at the Silver Moon pack. Everyone is busy doing something. I scan across the villagers but Alpha Loen is nowhere to be found. I headed into the palace. People stare in both worry and hostility, guards bowing in respect, eyes filled with the promise of disdain, but no one will dare to stop me. Everyone, both the dead and the living, knows I represent Alpha Raziel and will not dare to disrespect me. My Alpha is a headstrong force no one wants to reckon with, not even me, his most loyal subject.
