Sophia King

They blocked Sophie’s path just as she approached one of the reserved VIP tables. Despite the orchestra beginning to play louder music in the background, nearly everyone in the ballroom continued watching openly. The tension surrounding the three women was impossible to ignore. People could already smell drama coming. Serena folded her arms tightly as she stared Sophie up and down. The jealousy in her eyes was impossible to hide no matter how hard she tried. She hated this. She hated how beautiful Sophie looked. She hated the confidence in her posture, the calmness in her expression, and the attention she was drawing without even trying. Most of all, Serena hated that Sophie looked happier and more successful than she had imagined. She had expected Sophie to return broken and miserable. Not like this. So, to make herself feel better, she concluded that it was all a farce, something Sophie had done to gain attention. 'Five years is too little for anyone to become successful, especially a dumb head like Sophie.' she thought. “What are you doing here?” Serena asked coldly. Beside her, Jada scoffed loudly before crossing her arms. “Actually, I’d like to know how you even got inside.” Her eyes swept over Sophie with obvious contempt. “I’m pretty sure peasants aren’t allowed into places like this. I can't believe the security guards forgot to do their jobs." Several nearby guests exchanged uncomfortable looks immediately. Sophia simply stared at both women silently for a moment. Then she slowly sighed and pushed her dark hair casually over her shoulder. Standing tall in her heels, she looked between them with complete amusement. “I’m honestly not surprised,” she said calmly. “Five years later and neither of you has changed.” Her lips curved slightly upward. “Even a dog would’ve learned some manners after all this time.” Several people nearby gasped softly, some chuckling at the quiet mockery. Serena’s face darkened instantly while Jada looked seconds away from exploding in anger. “How dare you speak to me like that?” Jada snapped furiously. Sophie looked completely unbothered by her anger. Jada laughed bitterly before speaking again. “I know exactly why you’re here. You left thinking life would be easy, but reality finally humbled you.” Her eyes narrowed cruelly. “So now you’ve come back to beg.” Serena smirked immediately after hearing that. “You should stop dreaming,” she added smugly. “If you think you can steal Julian away from me again, then you’re wasting your time.” She deliberately lifted her left hand and showed off the massive diamond ring sitting proudly on her finger. “Julian belongs to me now, permanently.” Beside her, Jada smiled proudly. “Everything finally returned to normal after you left.” Sophia stared at them both quietly for a few seconds before sighing softly again. The expression on her face looked more amused than offended. “I genuinely have no idea what either of you is talking about,” she replied calmly. Serena laughed mockingly. “You will once security throws you out.” Then she turned sharply and spotted Julian standing several feet behind them. Her expression brightened instantly. “Julian, home,.” she called sweetly. “Tell security to remove this woman at once. She was brave enough to sneak in without an invitation. Throw her out now!” Every eye around them immediately shifted toward Julian. But Julian didn’t move. He was still staring at Sophie like the rest of the ballroom no longer existed around him. For five years, he had imagined seeing her again countless times. None of those fantasies had prepared him for the reality standing before him now. Sophia slowly turned toward him too and their eyes met properly for the first time in years. Julian felt something twist painfully inside his chest when he realized that there wasn't a single bit of warmth in her eyes. Meanwhile, Sophie’s expression remained perfectly calm. Then she reached into her purse and pulled out a sleek black invitation card. “I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t invited,” she said smoothly, shaking her head like she didn't have the time for the stress they were putting her through. Serena’s confident expression cracked immediately. “What?” Jada blurted out. Sophia finally looked directly at Julian. “Mr. Vale,” she said politely. The formal title hit Julian harder than he expected. “I’m honestly disappointed,” she continued calmly. “If I knew this was how your guests would be treated tonight, I would never have accepted your invitation.” Julian frowned immediately in confusion. He never invited her. Before he could speak, Dan suddenly rushed toward them. The moment he saw Sophie, his face lit up completely. “Ms. King!” he greeted warmly. He bowed slightly in apology before continuing. “I sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding, and thank you so much for attending tonight.” Julian turned sharply toward Dan in confusion. How did Dan know Sophie? Dan started working for him after the divorce. Serena had even made sure every trace of Sophie disappeared from public records and online searches connected to the Vale family. As if sensing Julian’s confusion, Dan quickly turned toward him. “Sir,” he said respectfully, “this is Sophia King…” He gestured politely toward Sophie. “CEO of LuminaTech.”
