I work at losing myself in the atmosphere while waiting in the stage wings with my Pirate g**g. They’re flushed and looking great in costume. The spotlight narrows and intensifies around one of the lost boys on stage as Hook bounces on his toes next to me, dressed in a spectacular mustard-colored coat with a black hat fixed on his head. He’s a very talented senior this year and plans to continue dance after high school. The music changes, and the lights dim further as the Lost Boys scatter and exit. That’s right, little boys, you better run because we’re a-coming. I crouch and creep onto the stage in the semi-darkness. Two pirates are on either side of me, brandishing swords.
