The following Tuesday at noon, Madame Solierre and I are in the room at the studio where we had our epic conversation last week.
I eye the piano grande in the corner and resist the urge to run my fingers up and down the smooth ivory keys as we talk musical selections. Nothing beats tight, heartfelt, live music while you"re dancing, especially for an ensemble. The connection between musicians and dancers is fantastic.
I wilt as Madame Solierre plays through the contemporary selection she’s chosen. Contemporary is my least favorite of the types of dance I take here. Often, what we do feels abstract for me. Maybe it’s the way it’s taught at this studio because I thought I"d like it. I love Broadway, jazz, and dance along those lines, but those are usually separate classes.
