Chapter 22

745 Words

It"s cool and quiet in the band room Monday morning during break. I had dreaded this chat I needed to have with Mel about missing another sectional, but instead of yelling at me, she asks a few questions about ballet school. "You"re probably wondering what I"m doing here if I"m leaving for ballet school so soon." "Not at all," she replies. "It sounds like you’re a serious dancer, and ballet takes a lot of your time. But I like that you want to play with us for however long you"re here. Our strength comes in part because many of us do other activities. Sports, art, writing, you name it, we have someone here who does it." My eyes sweep the room, catching sight of a large green sketchbook in the corner, a volleyball under someone"s chair, and a foreign language movie poster on the wall.
