The Monday following the movie excursion, I scan the list of items my school said I should bring. A few are out of my comfort zone — sheets, towels, and I don’t own a bathrobe. Taylor might help, and it’d be a way to hang out with each other before I leave. "Yeah?" she calls after I knock on her door. I kick clothes to the side as I enter her room. "Was my party the last day you cleaned in here?" "Do you need something?" "I’m shopping for school stuff. Do you want to come?" Taylor’s face goes blank. "I’m tired." "I can go another day." "No, do what you were gonna do." She puts her headphones on again. I exhale and walk out of her room. Dad isn’t back, and he’ll probably pull a Taylor. I’ll get the office supplies.
