JESSICA
My head throbbed as I slowly regained consciousness. The ground beneath me was cold and damp and I blinked rapidly, trying to clear the fog that clouded my vision. I wasn’t sure how long I had been out, but when I finally focused, I saw him.
He stood before me, a towering figure. His smile—too cruel—twisted my stomach into knots.
I swallowed hard, trying to steady my breath, but fear gripped me tightly. The events from earlier played back in my mind like a horrible dream: Evans, the betrayal, the syringe, and then the rush of panic as I was dragged into this nightmare. But it wasn’t over. Not yet.
Alpha Enzo stepped closer. His eyes glinted with amusement as he watched me, and after a while he smiled.
“Finally awake,” he said. His voice was smooth, yet menacing.
I didn’t know what to say to him. I didn’t know how to fight back. I just stared on, my body trembling, as Evans’ death replayed in my head.
It had all happened so fast. One moment, he was standing beside the man—Alpha Enzo—and the next, he was lying motionless on the ground. The speed at which Alpha Enzo had moved was beyond anything I could comprehend. It had happened in the blink of an eye.
“How pathetic,” He mused, watching me closely. “Poor Evans didn’t stand a chance. But then again, he wasn’t exactly the brightest, was he?” His lips curled into a sinister smile. “The only reason he died is because I didn’t want any traces left behind. But you, dear Jessica, as long as you’re a good girl, a good vessel, you’ll live long. I need you alive. For now, at least.”
Vessel? What the hell did he mean by that? I couldn’t make sense of it all. My heart raced, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that something terrible was about to happen.
“I’ve got something to take care of,” He announced. “I’ll be back soon. Don’t go anywhere, princess.”
Without another word, he turned on his heels and started walking away.
I didn’t know how to respond. He didn’t give me a chance. Left alone, I felt the crushing weight of my situation pressing down on me again. Alpha Enzo had taken Evans’ life so easily. So coldly. I had no idea why or what he wanted with me. All I knew was that I needed to get away from here, from him, from this nightmare.
Suddenly, a scent wafted through the air, one I recognized but couldn’t place immediately. It was faint at first, but as it grew stronger, a surge of restlessness filled me. My wolf stirred, scratching at the back of my mind. It was almost like she was waking up for the first time, eager and anxious.
Mate.
The word echoed through my mind, sharp and undeniable.
I had no time to understand, to question it. The scent got stronger, sharper. There were multiple scents now, layered over one another, and as I tried to process what was happening, my wolf howled in my head. She panted with excitement, her instincts on full alert. The connection between us was strong and it was, pulling me in a direction I couldn’t ignore. My wolf was restless, her growl echoing through my thoughts, but it wasn’t just one scent. There were three.
And then, through the trees, I saw them. Caleb, Leo, and Asher.
They were moving with purpose, their eyes locked onto me as they came closer. It was like they were drawn to me by some invisible thread, and in the back of my mind, I could feel it too—something strong and undeniable—pulled me in their direction, and I didn’t know what to do.
Caleb reached me first, his hands gently untying the ropes that bound me to the tree. He moved quickly, as though he had done this countless times before. His blue eyes—those piercing eyes—searched mine as he worked, but I couldn’t focus on anything except the overwhelming flood of emotions crashing over me.
What was happening? Why was this happening?
Leo and Asher stood just behind him, their gazes filled with concern.
My heart skipped a beat as the realization hit me - they were my mates.
Immediately, I felt something inside me crack. My wolf was too excited, too eager to embrace it, but I couldn’t. I didn’t want to. I prayed it wasn’t true. I couldn’t possibly be mated to all three of them, could I?
I looked up at Caleb, his hands gentle as they brushed against my skin, untying the final knot that held me captive. His eyes softened, but there was an edge to his gaze, an intensity I didn’t know how to read.
“There’s no time to explain right now,” he said softly, lifting me into his arms and cradling me against his chest. “We need to get you out of here.”
I didn’t respond. My heart was still pounding, my mind still reeling from everything that had happened in the last few hours. I couldn’t make sense of anything. The scent, the connection, the betrayal. Everything felt like it was spiraling out of control.
As Caleb carried me toward the car, I glanced over my shoulder. That was when I saw him – Alpha Enzo.
He stood there in the distance, watching us. A knowing smile played on his lips, his eyes glinting with something darker. He didn’t seem worried, didn’t seem to care that we were escaping. It was like he had allowed it. I didn’t understand why but there was no time to dwell on it.
The triplets piled into the car, and Caleb laid me gently in the back seat, his hand lingering on mine for just a moment longer than necessary. Leo and Asher sat beside me, their eyes fixed on me with a mixture of concern and something else—something too intense for my liking.
As we drove away, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that Alpha Enzo had known they were coming. That he had allowed It for some reason, some twisted game of his own. My mind raced with questions, but I didn’t have answers.
When we finally arrived back at the pack house, the triplets immediately surrounded me, leading me inside. The house was quieter than usual, and the atmosphere was tense.
“We knew something was wrong,” Leo said, his voice low and careful. “We could feel it. We picked up traces of your scent, faint, but we knew. We came as fast as we could.”
I didn’t know what to say. All I could do was stare at them, my emotions in turmoil.
“We’re sorry,” Asher added, his eyes dark with regret. “We should have protected you, should have been there for you. We’ve ignored you for too long, but we won’t anymore.”
I wanted to scream at them, to tell them how confused I was, how betrayed I felt. But instead, I just sat there, with tears glistening in my eyes.
“And now,” Caleb said softly, his voice like a caress, “we need you to accept the bond. We can’t pretend that nothing is happening. You’re ours, Jessica. We need you to accept it.”
Tears burned in my eyes. I shook my head, unable to understand what was happening to me, what was happening to us.
“I… I don’t know how,” I whispered, my voice trembling. “I don’t know if I can.”
And with that, everything in me broke.
