Episode 3 The King's decree

At the town

Matthan exchange the firewoods to the oil owner then leave peacefully. It was already half of the day and he needs to return before the sun sets. On his way back, he crossed over some palace attendants announcing the King's decree.

Then the King's attendants stated:

     Let a search be made for beautiful young virgins for the King.

     Let the King appoint commissioners in every provinces of his realm.

     To bring all these beautiful girls into the harem at the citadel of Carcas.

     Let them be place under the care of Hegai, the King's Eunuch, who is incharge of the women.

     Let beauty treatments be given to them.

     Then let the girl who pleases the King be Queen instead of Hara.

Matthan's astonishment fell him on his knees and summoned to have Zuriel be listed! Matthan's excitement drew him a magnificent plan, so as soon as he arrived home, he rushed in to Zuriel's house and told her his plan secretly.

Zuriel....Zuriel, she's qualified to take part of this decree. He thought to himself. Hesitatingly, with a bit of fear and excitement. 

Guard! He shouted, have my cousin on the list please. Fill this up, the attendant replied.

He knows exactly the danger and consequences of the matter but then he listed Zuriel regardless of the girl character, she was naived, lack of experience and so expect things to be easy or people to be honest and kind. She's too innocent to have knowledge of the more complex or unpleasant aspects of life and so very trustworthy to people taking advantage of her obliviousness.

Matthan, father and mother will not allow it, its too much trouble. They said that the King was ruthless, cruel and harshed. I can't even face him!

No, the King will not show himself. You'll be taken to the Harem first, the Eunuch of the King will be in charge of the women. All of you will be under beauty treatmet until the King summoned whose pleases him then brought to the King's residence house.

When the king's order and edict had been proclaimed, many girls were brought to the citadel of Carcas and put under the care of Hegai. Zuriel also will be taken to the king's palace and entrusted to Hegai, who had charge of the harem.

Girls from different towns had all gathered to the harem. As Hegai will take in charge of them for six months. The King will summoned each of them, if she pleases the King she will be set for the stayed category and will wait further. Those whose not stayed will send back home. Girls who remained will have the most luxuriate days in the harem. Zuriel as being the most favored was agitating the other girls who are social and upper class women.

Zuriel's maid servants keep reminding her to be more vigilant. My lady, i heard those upper class ladies are jealous of you, so you should keep your distance. No I think they're nice, they always smile at me. You just mis interpreted their bahavior. Its normal for them to be a little choosy because they belong to upper class people. My lady its not that we mis concept them but just be careful and watchful. Okay fine I will do that, she wink at her maid servants. 

I'm sure she is hiding something, her kindness is just a mask of her to win favor. Lord Hegai, favor her with more servants than ours and her foods are healthier than ours. You can see her body curved as evidence, she stood stunning. Yes but she's kinda know nothing, no brain. They laughed loudly.

We can speak to her and we may find her weak spots, what do you think. Yes, she's approachable either, yes I agree. Lets see where her brain is...ha..ha..ha..ha. Ladies quiet please, Hegai said. He heard the ladies and he's not approved by how they behave towards Zuriel. He did not allows hypocrites on his table. He has in mind not to look tolerable to Zuriel. Ladies, its time to rest, you all can go back to your assigned rooms, go quick...come'on girls.

Days past and Zuriel begun missing her life at the mountainside. She misses her hunting with Kish. She was trained by bows and arrows. But she has soft emotions on animals, she loves to feed animals and take care of them. Hadassah is a simple mother to her, just teaching her some embroidery, cooking and washing clothes. She always tell Zuriel that she has to know how a lady take good care of their personals. And Zuriel knew everything about chores. Her kindness leads her to more approachable and friendly. She has a lot of friends in their tribes. And she loves children playing with her, go fishing and swimming to the river near the mountainside. 

My lady...my lady..please answer me. Huh, ah what is it? You are day dreaming my lady, but you look lost of yourself. No, what is it? Its time for your meal my lady. Do you want it brought here? No, I'll go to the dining with the other girls. Okay, so lets go now.

At the table, the upper class ladies are sitting opposite the lower class ladies, in row of Zuriel. They keep on smirking and fidgeting their foods. Lurking over Zuriel from time to time, like they wanted to swallow Zuriel as their dessert. Unlike to them, Zuriel keep speaking politely to the other girls which made her more impressive to all the girls on the table. My lady, eat more please, less talks, her servant whisper to her ear that does not hide to the girls senses so they laughed loudly. Girls watch your manners said Hegai but gave comfort to him for he praises Zuriel in his mind for her goodness. He really find Zuriel with a good heart. She unlike the upper girls didn't give him headache. Upper class ladies are mostly spoiled and hypocrites inside and out.
