The Kingdom That Refused to Die

1321 Words
The journey had already begun. Even before they moved. Because once a name is spoken— It does not stay where it was said. It spreads. It pulls. It calls. Draevenhold. The undefeated kingdom. But undefeated did not mean untouched. And it did not mean safe. It meant something far worse. It meant— It had survived long enough to be broken again. INT. WAR ROOM – CONTINUOUS The torches flickered. Not from wind. But from something unseen. The air had changed. Thicker. Colder. Like something invisible had entered the room and settled into the corners. Watching. Listening. Kael stood near the table. Still. Unmoving. Alexander watched him. Not as a king. As a man trying to understand something he was not prepared to face. “…tell me everything,” Alexander said. No command. No authority. Just truth. Kael didn’t hesitate this time. “…Draevenhold is not what you think it is.” Jason crossed his arms. “…it’s the ‘undefeated kingdom,’ right?” Kael glanced at him briefly. “…it survived.” A pause. “…that doesn’t mean it didn’t suffer.” Jason scoffed lightly. “…every kingdom suffers.” Kael’s gaze shifted. Cold. “…not like this.” That shut him up. Silence returned. Sophia stepped forward. Her voice softer now. But steadier. “…what happened there?” Kael looked at her. Longer this time. Like he was deciding how much truth she could carry. Then— He spoke. FLASHBACK – OVER 100 YEARS AGO “…over a hundred years ago…” “…before Avaris even knew what lay beyond the sky…” “…Draevenhold did.” The room leaned into his words. “…the sky opened there first.” Silence. “…not once.” “…not twice.” “…but again…” “…and again.” Each word fell heavier. Like stones sinking into water. THE BEGINNING OF HORROR “…they came often,” Kael continued. “…too often.” “…not like an invasion.” “…like a routine.” Jason frowned. “…a routine?” Kael nodded. “…like farmers returning to harvest.” That word changed everything. The room shifted. No one spoke. Because now— They understood. This wasn’t war. This was ownership. WHAT THEY DID TO HUMANS “…they took humans,” Kael said. “…not randomly.” “…carefully.” “…deliberately.” Sophia’s voice dropped. “…for what?” Kael didn’t soften it. “…for food.” A pause. “…and for research.” The torches flickered harder. Jason’s jaw tightened. “…research how?” Kael met his eyes. “…they opened them.” Silence. “…alive.” The room froze. “…they studied how long we last.” “…how we break.” “…how we change.” Perseus turned away slightly. “…that’s not war…” Kael answered quietly— “…no.” “…it’s worse.” THE FALL OF MEN “…they removed the men first,” Kael continued. “…fighters.” “…leaders.” “…anyone who could resist.” Alexander’s hands clenched. “…they cut out the strength.” Kael nodded. “…and left the rest.” Theodore stepped forward. “…and no one stopped them?” Kael looked at him. “…they tried.” A pause. “…they failed.” THE WOMEN OF DRAEVENHOLD Sophia spoke again. Quieter. Almost afraid to hear the answer. “…and the women?” Kael paused. For the first time— There was hesitation. “…they kept them.” Silence. Homer frowned. “…for what purpose?” Kael’s voice lowered. “…because they were different.” “…stronger.” “…more adaptable.” Jason’s voice sharpened. “…adaptable to what?” Kael didn’t look away. “…to them.” The realization struck. Sophia stepped back slightly. “…no…” Her hand moved to her chest. “…that’s not possible…” Kael didn’t comfort her. “…it happened.” THE KING ENTERS “…then one day,” Kael continued, “…everything changed.” The room stilled again. “…he came himself.” Theodore’s voice dropped. “…the king of Zyraeth.” Kael nodded. “…yes.” Sophia whispered— “…why would a king come himself…” Kael answered— “…to end something that refused to break.” EXT. DRAEVENHOLD – NIGHT (FLASHBACK) The sky did not open. It tore. Violently. Like flesh being ripped apart. The ground trembled. Walls cracked. People fell to their knees— Not from fear. From pressure. And from that tear— He descended. Not rushed. Not aggressive. Calm. Certain. Like the world already belonged to him. The Alien King. HIS PURPOSE “…his mission was simple,” Kael said. “…destroy Draevenhold.” Silence. “…wipe it out completely.” Alexander’s voice hardened. “…why?” Kael answered. “…because Draevenhold had changed.” A pause. “…it had started to fight back.” THE LAST MEN “…there were barely any men left,” Kael continued. “…those who remained…” “…were broken.” “…injured.” “…tired.” A pause. “…but they still stood.” Alexander whispered— “…of course they did…” Kael nodded. “…and they died.” Silence. THE TURNING POINT “…but something happened,” Kael said. “…something that should not exist.” The room leaned in. “…something they created…” “…but did not control.” Sophia whispered— “…Ravion…” Kael looked at her. “…yes.” THE BIRTH OF SOMETHING DARK “…he was not born,” Kael said. “…he was made.” Silence. “…their experiments…” “…their interference…” “…their attempt to understand us…” A pause. “…created him.” Jason exhaled slowly. “…and they lost control.” Kael nodded. “…completely.” THE FIRST BATTLE “…when the king descended…” “…Ravion stepped forward.” “…alone.” Perseus whispered— “…against a king?” Kael’s voice dropped. “…yes.” THE FIGHT “…he didn’t hesitate.” “…he didn’t fear them.” “…he didn’t fear death.” A pause. “…because he wasn’t fully alive to begin with.” Silence. “…he moved like them…” “…but faster.” “…he thought like them…” “…but sharper.” “…and he fought like something that had already lost everything.” THE KING’S REACTION “…for the first time…” “…the king of Zyraeth…” “…stopped.” Jason frowned. “…stopped?” Kael nodded. “…he saw something new.” “…something unpredictable.” “…something dangerous.” THE RETREAT “…they didn’t lose,” Kael said. “…but they retreated.” Silence. “…they chose to leave.” Homer shook his head. “…that’s worse.” Kael nodded. “…yes.” “…because it means they’ll come back.” BACK TO PRESENT The war room felt colder now. Heavier. Like the story had left something behind. Sophia’s voice trembled. “…so he’s still there…” Kael nodded. “…in Draevenhold.” DOUBT AND FEAR Theodore stepped forward. “…or they’re watching him.” Silence. Jason frowned. “…watching him?” Theodore’s voice lowered. “…waiting for him to become something worse.” FINAL REALIZATION Alexander stepped forward slowly. “…then Draevenhold…” “…is not a safe place.” Kael answered. “…it never was.” A pause. “…it’s a battlefield that never ended.” FINAL MOMENT The room shifted again. Because now— Draevenhold was no longer a legend. It was a warning. A scar. Proof— Of what happens when the sky opens— And never closes. Outside— The sky burned. Watching. Waiting. And far away— In a kingdom built on pain— On survival— On something unnatural— A man who was never meant to exist— Waited. Not as a hero. Not as a savior. But as something far more dangerous. Ravion.
