Bonnie slicked her palms down the front of her shorts, wishing she were anywhere but in the city council room. She wasn’t sure if she’d speak tonight, but she watched the workers get the microphones set up for the public hearing about the fountain on Main Street. A dozen or so people had already arrived, but the room continued to fill as the minutes passed. Bonnie felt lightheaded. Images flashed through her mind, but she worked to control them, the way Dr. Huff had been teaching her. The panic subsided as quickly as it had come, and Bonnie wiped her forehead and took a deep breath. She wouldn’t relive that day again. She couldn’t blame herself forever.
