The Hunt

Chapter 1

'As of today, I, Alpha Roman Wolfreed declare you, Beta Charles Belies, as the replacement Alpha if I am not to return to this earth.' I said as I was suppressing my excitement. In about 4 hours, when the clock would hit 12 and the full moon would be shining down on me, I'd have to make a crucial decision.

Charles face lighted up with delight as his smile reached his ears. 'Thank you Alpha. Your pack will be in good hands and we will be waiting for your return impatiently with our luna to be.' 

'I sure hope so Charles.' With that I left the ceremony chamber to return to the comfort of my room to mentally prepare myself for what was awaiting me.

For the next 3 hours or so I laid in my bed as thoughts kept running through my agitated mind. It's been seven years now, I'm twenty-five and I'm still alone to run the biggest pack of this earth, aka CrimsonPaw. I need my Luna to help me with it, I can't do it alone any longer. The thing is, once you turn eighteen you have seven years to find your mate on your earth. If you don't manage to find them, it means they aren't on your planet at all. They're either somewhere in the multiverse, on another earth, or dead. Usually you feel it instantly at eighteen when they're dead though. 

I do know that mine is alive and I'm confident that I will find her. Only problem, at midnight I will have to choose which earth I believe she's on and go there. After that I'll have 1 moon cycle to find her and bring her back to my earth. If I don't succeed by that time, me and my mate will both die... And that's what we commonly call The Hunt.

That's the scary part but I'm confident, everything will work out just fine. The mate bond will guide me to her, that's for sure.

knock knock

'Ugh, come in.'

My mom stormed in while pulling a blonde skinny and bratty looking girl with her. Oh god is she kidding me, not this bullshit again!

'Hi Roman! This is Peach, she's a beta's daughter and I'm sure you guys would make an amazing couple! Say hi sweetie.'

'Hey! Look I know I'm not your mate but honestly why would you even need her? I know all about packs and I'm an amazing fighter, I've trained my whole life.'

I sighed loudly, obviously tired of my mom's little games and got up. I walked towards the brat as I saw the fear start to creep up in her ocean eyes. Good, she should be scared.

'How dare you disrespect my mate like that? Why would I ever choose YOU, a bratty little she-wolf, instead of her? I may not know how she is yet but I do know that she's definitely smarter and prettier than you! Now leave my room before I call the guards and tell them to put you in the basement...'

She stared at me for a good minute with her mouth wide open, astonished by what I had said, before she finally closed it and looked at me with hatred.

' You'll regret this Alpha!'

This girl is getting on my last nerve.

'Leave.this.ROOM.' I said using my Alpha tone.

She shivered, turned around and left slamming my door on the way. 

I turned on my heels to face my oh so sad looking mother.

'Mom, that's enough! I'm tired of your little tricks. I know you don't want me to go but I will and you can't do anything to stop me. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a shower to take and a bag to make before it's time.'

'But...'

I didn't let her finish as I walked straight into my bathroom and shut the door right in her face.

Is she kidding me right now?! It's the third girl she brings to me this week, she's going to be the death of me. 

I turned the shower on and stripped down while the water was getting hot, before walking in. I let the amazingly hot water drip down my face as I relaxed at the feeling. My imagination started running wild as I thought about what my mate might look like. She must be so beautiful. I bet she's strong and fierce. I'd love a little rebellious one too, that's way more fun! She's probably really funny and silly too. I'm so pumped and ready to meet her... 

I got out of the shower, dried myself with a towel and dressed up in sweats so I would be comfortable for the adventure. However I brought a suit in my bag, I need to be presentable for her at least. 

I finished packing up and left my room. I made my way out of the pack house and started walking to the little clearing in the forest. As I approached it, I distinguished the silhouette of my mom and my stepfather alongside with my beta, aka my stepfathers son. 

I never have had a good relationship with him, I know all he wants is power and to have that he's been using my mother. He pisses me off, he's always criticizing everything I do as the Alpha. 

My dad got killed in a rogue attack when I was 2 years old, which destroyed my mom and let her believe that it was in her best interest to find a new Alpha for the pack. My grandfather had good relations and found Jonh in a blink of an eye and matched them together. I'm pretty sure my dad and him weren't fond of each other.

'Hey kid, you ready for today?'

'Yeah, elder.'

'Woah there young men, don't talk to him like that!'

'I'm twenty five, I don't need a lecture.' 

'I'm still your mom I'll lecture you until I die.'

'Oh stop it. The Hunt is about to start so, if you'd excuse me.' I said before passing by them and meeting up with Charles.

'Roman please, you can still back down... I can find you the perfect girl I-I'll do anything just p-please don't leave me too!' 

I'm guessing she followed me.

'Mom we already talked about this countless times now! I'm tired of this, YOU got to have a mate, YOU got to experience it, now it's my turn! I'd rather try and maybe fail than never experience that feeling.'

She looked destruct, I don't want to be rude to her. I mean I love her, she's my mom but sometimes she gets on my nerves and I have some troubles with my wolf. Right now is one of those times.

'But I c-can't lose you too...' She said while wiping some of her tears away.

'Mom you're not going to, you must trust me. I'll come back in time that's a promise, plus you'll get to meet your new daughter in law. Don't you want that?'

'I do... BUT NOT IF THE PRICE TO PAY FOR THAT MIGHT BE LOSING MY BOY.' She stared at me dead serious with zero intention of backing out.

I feel bad for what I'm about to do but I don't have another option here.

'Ugh... why do you have to make it so complicated. I'm sorry but you're not giving me any other choice. Jonh.'

I nodded my head his way and he took action. He grabbed my mom in his arms and started walking back to the pack house with her while she kept dashing, screaming and crying.

I don't know why he accepted to help me there, it must've been in his interest of some sort or else he wouldn't have accepted when I asked him.

'So you ready?' Charles said making me focus back onto him.

' Yes I'm pumped! Let's start right away.'

'As you wish.' He got a mask out of his pocket and tied it around my head to cover my eyes up.

'The portals are opening Roman, it's midnight' He sounded pretty excited, I guess he's happy for me.

As I kept still I started having weird goosebumps and I felt like my body was leaning towards the left. 

'I can feel it, I feel the pull oh my god!'

I started making my way to where I could tell it was leading me when i heard a snicker. I stopped in my track wondering why he thought was funny at this moment.

'What's up with you? Are you good?'

'Me? Oh yeah I'm perfectly fine!' He said with a satisfied tone.

Well that was weird...

I started moving again when suddenly I felt someone pushing me and I lost my balance.

As I fell on the side, I felt myself going through one of the portals.

It felt like going down in the abyss.

Pitch black and coldness all over.

I then lost all consciousness...
