ARIA Maximo’s jaws clenched as my words echoed around the room. A beat of silence passed between us. Ten seconds. Fifteen seconds. My heart squeezed painfully at the turbulent emotions in my chest, then sank as I got the answer I needed. “That’s what I thought,” I muttered bitterly before exiting the living room.
