Chapter 34 The wedding crowd surged for the castle walls. Benches overturned and the planters filled with flowers were knocked over, spilling their blossoms and dirt. Parents grabbed their children, amidst the commotion of cries and shouting. “Soldiers, to your weapons!” Sir Durum bellowed, waving for his warriors to make haste. The Nightshade Lord, Merkis Strond at his side, dashed for the main gates, trailed by his two guards. I looked wildly around for Paulette, but without her red cloak, I couldn’t spot her in the crowd. “We must secure the hidden door,” Thorne said, grabbing my hand.
