15. The Confrontation

I hear another set of footsteps—this time heavier, faster, and coming straight toward us. A man. And he’s not slowing down. Instinct kicks in. I yank Audrey and Nicole behind me and plant myself between them and the door just as it crashes open. A figure bursts through—tall, muscled, menacing. He pauses, scanning the room, eyes hunting for something—or someone—he doesn’t find. Disappointment flashes across his face, quickly replaced by calculation. And then his gaze lands on us. Three women,all unarmed and cornered. His face splits into a smug grin. “Well, well. Three little lunars all for me. You’re not who I was looking for, but I’m definitely not complaining.
