Chapter Thirty-NineNow inside Agnes's room, Alan swiftly glanced around. There was no sign of Agnes, or anyone else, though he did notice a bottle of wine, together with a toilet brush, lying on the bed. He gestured at Smithers to go around to the other side of the bed to make sure no one was crouched down. But, once he had taken a look, Smithers shook his head. “Agnes!” Alan called out, now looking towards the bathroom. “Are you here? It's me, Alan.
