Chapter Twenty-FourAlan was still standing by the door of Sandra's room when Agnes indicated that she was going to look in the bathroom. He had watched carefully as she went through the motions of someone just arriving back at the hotel after a day out. However, it appeared that Sandra wasn't in her room; nor, thankfully, was anyone else. Though there was still the riddle as to why Sandra's door had been ajar. When he and his detectives were with Agnes in her room a few minutes ago, she had stressed that, since her door had been tampered with some months ago, the closing device above all the doors of the guest rooms was checked regularly.
