Chapter 10

Xavier! Xavier!! Sewa called quietly when she couldn't 

find him next to her, she stood up to look for him, she 

couldn't find him anywhere in the house.

Xavier! Hey babe what are you doing? I thought you 

slept already, he said startling her, I woke up to pee 

and you were not there, I'm fine just stood up to 

get water, I was in the kitchen just now and you 

weren't there, you know what, let's go to back to bed, 

Xavier? What were you doing? I told you I came to get 

water, I drank it already, what's the issue? you don't 

believe me, he said hugging her, why do you smell like 

that? Like what? you smell very bad, like a morgue 

morgue? What are you saying, let's go to bed, he said 

walking her towards the stairs. 

Morning sunshine, he pecked her on the lips, morning 

baby, how was your night? "Great" where are you 

going all dressed up? mom called me she said Dad 

had an heart attack, oh my God! 'Mom said he's fine 

and responding to treatment, I'm coming with you, no 

you're not fix breakfast, I'll be back soon, send my 

regards. 

She picked her phone to call her friend. Hey babe, 

Sewa said, miss me already? Kemi giggled, shut up

I'm home alone and bored, where's prince charming, 

he went out, he left you at home? his father is sick, he 

went to see him, ohh, so what's up, Kemi said, I'm 

good, how are you? I'm fine too, he's been acting 

weird since I got here, "Sewa" are you trying to find 

fault in him or what?, I'm not Kemi, something might 

be bothering him, Kemi said, alright, have you 

had breakfast? Kemi asked, not yet I'm still lying 

down, do you want me to come over and bring 

breakfast, no babe don't worry I'll cook, thank you, 

okay, we'll talk later, bye.

She strolled round the house, taking the tour she as 

always wanted but Xavier never allowed her, this 

house is really big, she whispered to herself, she 

opened the door to a room down the hallway, the 

room was empty and neat, no one uses this room and 

yet it's so clean, she looked round and saw two doors, 

she opened one it was a toilet, she opened the other 

one just dark, she searched for a switch but there was 

none she switched on her phone flashlight raised it 

and looked inside, it was just a passage leading to 

another door, what's this? she asked herself walking 

towards the other door, she turned the doorknob, it's 

locked, she looked to search for a key, she found 

nothing, where could this lead to, this is so creepy I'm 

out of here, she closed the doors and headed towards 

the kitchen.

As she laid on the sofa watching a Netflix movie, she 

heard the doorbell ring, she peeped through the 

peephole on the door and opened it, Sewa, how are 

you doing? Dele one of Xavier's friend, I'm good come 

in Xavier isn't home though, but he should be here 

anytime from now, alright I'll wait for him, what can I 

get you? I'm okay thank you, alright, you can have 

your sit, give me a minute. 

She dialed Xavier's number, it went straight to 

voicemail, she dialed his mom's number, Sewa, how 

are you? I'm fine, how are you doing? I'm good too, 

how's Dad? He's fine too, I've been trying to call 

Xavier but it's going straight to voicemail, please tell 

him to call me, you said his number isn't reachable, I 

can't call him too, he isn't with you? I haven't seen him 

today, he told me you called him this morning, did he 

say why I called him? he said Dad had an heart attack, 

why would he lie to you about something like that, 

he's dad is okay and right here with me, I'll try calling 

him, alright ma. 

Are you sure you don't want anything? She smiled, a 

glass of whiskey, if you don't mind, I'll be right back.

Here you go, she handed him a glass of whiskey, how 

well do you know Xavier? He asked, enough to marry 

him, why did you ask anyway? Just wanted to know if 

he tells you everything, is there something you want 

to tell me? Run while you still can, what's this about?

she said angrily, if there's something I should know 

please tell me, don't get me wrong I'm not trying to 

paint him bad, then tell me what you think I need to 

know I'm marrying this guy, and I don't think I know 

him with the way you're talking about him, I'm not 

trying to scare you, just be careful with him, he's not 

who you think he is, I don't think he's coming anytime 

soon tell him I stopped by, alright I will, take care of 

yourself, he said.

Xavier! Where have you been? She asked, I went to 

see dad, why are you lying? I'm not lying, why would I 

lie to you, I called your mom, when I couldn't reach 

you, why? He asked furiously, your friend was here, I 

tried calling you, you told me you were going to see 

your dad, she's the only one I could call, why did you 

lie? Where did you go? I had some business issues, I 

had to sort them out, he said nonchalantly, I don't 

believe you, you could've told me that instead of lying, 

I didn't want to bother you with my problems, I don't 

believe you Xavier I have work to do tomorrow and I 

have to prepare I'm leaving, I just got here, you can't 

leave, he grabbed her waist, do you know the time

you left me all by myself since morning, you lied to 

me and you're asking me to stay I have work to do 

Xavier, she carried her bag, calm down, I know you're 

mad at me, I didn't lie to you, I didn't want to bother 

you, we're getting married remember, your problems 

are my problems too, you can't keep hiding things 

from me I don't like it, how can I trust you when you 

lie about little things like this, tell me whatever the 

problem is don't hide anything from me, it isn't good 

for these relationship, I'm sorry Sewa it won't happen 

again and I'm sorry for leaving all alone, I promise 

never to do that, apology accepted but I still need to 

go, I have work tomorrow, alright, let me walk you to 

your car.

I didn't know you're coming today, you told me 

monday, Kemi said walking behind her to her room, I 

changed my mind, why? I'm pissed, what did he do? 

He just got back since morning he left me alone in his 

house doing nothing profitable, is that why you left? 

He told you his father's sick, you should understand, 

he lied Kemi, I called his mom, he said he had some 

business to handle and didn't want to bother me, did 

you ask him what business? No I didn't, he doesn't 

want to tell me he hides so many things from me, 

that's really bad, talk to him about it, he might not be 

use to talking to people about personal things don't let 

this get you, Kemi something is not right, I think I'm 

making a big mistake marrying him, what do you 

mean? His friend came over today but he wasn't 

around, he told me to run, he told you to run like run?

yes, he asked if I knew him so well, I don't know what 

to think, if his friend told you to run then I think you 

should, are you saying I should break of the 

engagement, his friend know him better than 

you, Kemi I love him he doesn't act like this before

I'm not giving up on him, no matter what the case 

may be I'm marrying him, are you sure you're ready 

to face anything just for him, I'm ready Kemi, he's 

going through a lot and I want to help him, I'll be right 

here with you, Kemi hugged her.

Have you had dinner? didn't know you were coming 

home, would've made something nice, I'm not hungry, 

I just want to sleep, okay let me get my phone, I'm 

sleeping next to you tonight, no way I love my space, 

not tonight, Kemi giggled. 

Don't you think we should go for a trip, Kemi said, I've 

always wanted a vacation, where should we go to? 

Sewa asked, Mexico, Morocco or Italy, Kemi said, 

which do you prefer? Sewa asked, Mexico, she said, 

Mexico is fine, when should we go? Kemi asked, if 

possible tomorrow, she chuckled, funny, Kemi 

smirked, weekend is fine, I'll put things in other this 

week, okay, for how many weeks? Kemi asked, Sewa 

didn't you hear my question, she turned to face her, 

she was fast asleep, silly girl, how can she sleep off on 

me like that.
