HADES’S POV
“Is that you Hades, hunny?” I hear my mama call out from the living area.
“Yes, ma.” I call out.
“Come, I'm here baby,” she says.
I walk into the living room and see her standing and pacing.
The worry in her eyes is so apparent, and immediately I know she must have heard about Noah getting arrested.
“hi mama. How are you doing?” I ask her as I hug her.
She comes willingly into my arms and she even squeezes me. Or at least she tries. My mama is very small compared to me. With her petite body and height of 5,4 she’s small.
“Did you see your brother? How is he doing?” she asks.
There is a sheen of unshed tears in her eyes and that’s when I notice how puffy her eyes are and how swollen her face is. She looks like she has been crying all day.
“Mama, don’t tell me you have been crying all day,” I ask her as I pull her in the direction of the kitchen for some water.
“Why won’t I cry? The police department called your dad that he should come and pick up your brother from the precinct, and he refused to go. I wanted to go get my precious boy and take him home, but your father insisted I let him stay there.” she breaks down in tears again.
“oh mama.” I grab a tissue paper from the counter and pull her into my arms again as she sobs.
“you need to stop crying. You are going to make yourself sick if you don’t stop right now,” I tell her.
“i know, I know. I wanted to go get my boy, but your dad said something about him being an adult, and he should face the consequences of his actions. But he is still my baby. No matter what he did, I would have gone to get him, but you know how your father gets when he doesn’t want you to do something,” she says.
“yes. He can be domineering at time.” I say to her and he nods.
Domineering is putting it mildly. He is more than domineering. He enforces whatever he thinks is right. Sometimes I feel like he does a better job leading and ruling the public than his own family.
“Don’t worry mama. He called me and I went to pick him up. He is fine. He is not hurt or anything and he was just drunk. Right now he is sleeping it off at our other house,” I tell her.
“Thanks baby. Thank you for going to get him. I should have ignored your father and still have gone to pick him up. He should be here home with me.” I can see another round of tears coming so I distract her.
“you know what? How about you make him that soup you normally make for us when we have hangovers? You can make some for him and take it to him. I am sure he will like that.” I tell her.
“oh. That’s a good idea. I think that’s what I’ll do. He is going to be so surprised.” she gasps.
Her mind is already working fast.
“i need to go to the store to get somethings. I need a couple of stuffs.” she says already grabbing her phone and texting her driver to go the store to pick up all she needs.
She is already putting plans together for the idea I gave her .
I use to opportunity to walk upstairs. I know where I am going and soon I am striding into my father’s office to find him there with his head buried in paperwork.
“Hello dad.” I say as I shut the door close behind us both .
“Hi son.” He says without looking up from his papers.
“How’s school and rugby?” He asks.
“Good sir. Good.” I tell him as I stand there just looking at him.
“Was there something you wanted?” He asks.
“Why did you tel mama not to go and get Noah from the station? I had to leave classes to go and get him because neither of you wanted to!” I tell him.
He drops the papers and looks at me.
When I look at his face sometimes I see myself in there. We look so much alike. I have his eyes and nose, I am more built that him but it is apparent I got most of my appearance from him and not mum.
“You left classes to go and pick your brother from the station? In as much as I commend that chivalrous act you left school to pick your drunk irresponsible brother form jail. That’s your decision and I don’t get why you are angry.” He says.
“You are his father! Why should you ignore him when he needs you the most. That’s not what parents do.” I tell him.
“You are forgetting that he is an adult who made conscious decisions to go out to a bar, get drunk and fight. He would have gotten hurt or worse and I am thankful he didn’t get hurt but you have to stop excusing is behavior. I am not going to keep going through the same circle again.” He says.
He pulls his glasses off and looks me dead in the eyes.
“What would have happened if I had gone to pick him up? We will get into it right there in the station or the parking lot for the whole world to see and then it is going to upset your mother even more. She is going to be wrecked all over again seeing her boy self-destruct. I can’t put her through that again. I refuse to.” He says.
Even when he can be stubborn, arrogant and controlling, one thing I have never doubted was his love for his wife. She is the love and pride of his life and I get he is going to go to any lengths to protect her.
This Noah thing is hurting her, it is breaking the whole family.
“I understand.” I say.
“Good. I am glad you do.” He says and eats his glasses again to go back to work.
“Mama is going to make him some soup and take it to him. If you don’t want her to see him because he is a mess right now you should do something about that now.” I tell him before I walk out of his office.
Walking to my room and lying on the bed I don’t have to think much before I fall into a deep sleep. Before I slip into the dark hands of sleep the last thought that flashes through my mind is blonde hair and icy blue eyes.
