"Tommy, you have been the most dedicated employee to my workshop," the old man said. "I know you’ve saved up some money to start your own business, and I want to let you know that you’ll be taking over my workshop. I have nobody else to take over when I’m gone. Consider it a gift from me to you, Tommy. You’re like a son to me."
"Thank you, sir!" I said with excitement and happiness. "My wife will be so happy to hear this!"
"Hello, my wifey!" I greeted as I walked into the house, smiling and heading towards the room.
"Hey, my handsome Tommy! How was work at the workshop? Why do you look so excited?" she asked.
"Guess what?" I said. "You know I can guess, but just tell me what's going on," she replied, looking curious.
"I wasn’t just promoted—I inherited Mr. Brown’s workshop!" I said.
"Really?" she exclaimed.
"Yes, wifey! Things are turning out in our favor. Now, not only will I provide for you, but I’ll take good care of you."
"We still need to save up to expand the business," she said. "I know you want to spend on me, but I make some money from the little business I do, so please save up and expand more."
"I love you, wifey. You are the best," I said.
That night, I couldn’t sleep. I kept wondering how I could expand the workshop—not only the one I inherited but to open more in different locations, even in other countries. I thought about applying for partnerships with bigger companies. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but there was no harm in trying.
The next morning, I started preparing documents to approach companies for a partnership. I searched high and low, but none agreed to partner with me because of how small the workshop was and how little profit it made. "We’ll get back to you, Mr. Tommy," they would say.
One day, during my break at the workshop, I got a call. It was from one of the companies I had applied to, and I was surprised because I hadn’t expected to hear from them.
"Hello, Mr. Tommy," the voice said. "I’m calling to let you know that the board has agreed to work with you. We would be happy to partner with you and would love for you to come tomorrow to discuss the requirements and budget for expansion."
"Thank you! I’ll be happy to come for the signing of the documents," I replied.
As I prepared for the meeting, I still had doubts. I couldn’t believe it. When I walked into the company, I was warmly welcomed as if I were one of the biggest CEOs they had ever had. I was so happy and couldn’t still believe it. After the deal was signed, I was on my way out when I passed an old woman, dressed expensively and rushing by, seemingly in a hurry. As she walked past, I felt like her scent was familiar. My head started to hurt badly.
I quickly called a taxi to take me home to rest.
The next thing I remembered was my wife rushing to take care of me as I rested. When I opened my eyes, I saw her so happy.
"You made it, Tommy!" she said, smiling widely.
I was surprised and asked, "Made what?"
"You’re all over the news as the new partner with the Lexi Automobile Company, worth billions of dollars!" she exclaimed.
I couldn’t believe it. Everything was happening so fast, and it was all too good to be true.
I sat up, still feeling a little disoriented. "Wait, what? The Lexi Automobile Company?" I asked, trying to make sense of it all.
"Yes!" she replied, her excitement making her voice tremble. "You’re now a partner with one of the biggest automobile companies in the world! They announced it everywhere—the deal is huge. You're going to make so much money, Tommy! This is a dream come true."
I couldn't believe it. Just the day before, I was struggling to get a partnership for my little workshop, and now, I was in business with a global giant. It felt like my whole life had turned upside down.
"But how did all this happen?" I asked, still in shock. "I didn’t even think the meeting was that important."
"That's the thing!" she said, sitting beside me. "The news says they were impressed with your vision and determination. They saw potential in you and your workshop. They must have realized that you were serious about expanding and taking things to the next level. And now, you're their partner."
I sat there, trying to process everything. One minute I was just a simple workshop employee, and now I was part of something so big. I was still trying to understand how it all happened so quickly.
"Tommy, you’ve worked so hard for this. You deserve it," my wife said, placing her hand on mine. "You’re going to do amazing things."
I smiled, grateful for her support. "Thanks, wifey. I couldn’t have done it without you."
Over the next few days, everything changed. The workshop that I had inherited from Mr. Brown grew rapidly with the new partnership. The resources from Lexi Automobile Company gave us the boost we needed. We hired more workers, expanded our facilities, and began planning to open new branches in other cities.
Despite the fast growth, I made sure to stay grounded. I remembered where I started and how hard I had worked to get here. My wife and I continued to save money, focusing on growing the business and making smart decisions.
As time went on, the partnership with Lexi grew even stronger. We were soon involved in international deals, working with other companies around the world. The success was overwhelming, but it didn’t change me. I still worked in the workshop, side by side with my team, making sure everything ran smoothly. I was determined to keep the business humble, no matter how much money we made.
One day, as I was walking through the workshop, the old man came to visit. He looked proud of me, and I felt a wave of gratitude for everything he had done for me.
"You've come a long way, Tommy," The old man said, smiling. "I knew you had it in you."
I smiled back. "I wouldn’t be here without you, Mr. Brown. You gave me the chance to follow my dreams, and I’ll never forget that."
As the years went by, our business grew into a global brand. I became known not only for my work ethic but for my dedication to my employees and my customers. But the one thing I held onto above everything else was my family. My wife and I worked together, side by side, always making sure our business stayed true to its roots.
And as for the day I inherited the old man workshop? It was just the beginning of something far greater than I could have ever imagined.
