Mrs. D spoke, “Glad you could join us, Ms. Grace.” I patiently waited for the figure to emerge in hopes that it was indeed McKenzie. The person opposite the door had been talking to the teacher for quite some time, and the anticipation was killing me. I breathed out a heavy breath, hoping it was McKenzie but also hoping it wasn't her. I couldn't find the origin of why I didn't want it to be her, because deep inside McKenzie was always on my mind. When Mrs. D let her through, I was alarmed when I saw McKenzie pass through the doorway. Although today she seemed rather out of it, even her outfit was off.
