While walking, I heard a guy’s voice near the garbage. I went near to where the voice is and I was surprised to see a guy, as if shocked as to why he’s in the trash. Or was he mentally ill? When his eyes caught me, he smiled at me. I was wondering why he’s dress that way. He’s wearing old clothes probably centuries ago. He has a long hair and is very good-looking. “Such a pity if he’s mentally ill…” I whispered to myself. “M-me? W-what? Mentally ill? Are you crazy?” he shouted at my face. Maybe he’s not mentally ill, just… out of fashion. He looked as awkward as he stated, “Can I go with you?” My eyes widened at his statement. I knew it, he’s a r****t! “No! You can’t possible come with me.” I screamed and run as fast as I could. His eyes also widened at that and he tried to chase me. “Wait up, miss! I need your help. I’m begging you.” “Are you out of your mind?” I shouted and ran faster, “Stop chasing me!” I went left and used the shortcut way to our home. I looked back to see if he was still chasing me but I stopped my track to see that he was gone. I felt my surrounding and went inside the house. A pinch in the cheek is what I got. “You’re late again! Look at yourself, Sid. You look like… Tsk. Hurry up and take a bath. Eat before you sleep.” “Yes, Mama. Thank you.” I entered my round and did what I had to do. I also ate and brush my teeth before resting on my bed. I got my phone and tried to text Grant, aren’t he even worried about me? Does he even remember me? Me: Hi Grant, are you asleep now? I asked. After quite some time, I’ve received a reply so my smile was so big and bright. Grant: Yes, I’m already sleeping by now. I smiled even more and slightly laugh at his playful remark. Me: Will you go to school tomorrow? Grant: Yes, Good night. Me: Goodnight, Grant. Sweet dreams… I shook my head as I turn off my phone. I also turned off the lights and covered myself with the comforter. I remember the guy a while ago. Am I going to tell Mama about it? What if he’s a bad person and killed me? At least Mama would have a clue as to who’s my murderer. I slapped my forehead at how ridiculous my thoughts are. I may be overthinking… I heaved a sigh and started to close my eyes until I was lost in my sleep. Chapter 3 “Sid, fix your necktie. Make yourself look presentable, not that you look one…” Mama stated and she went near me; she fixed my necktie for me. Do I really look like a war freak just because of my necktie? “Now, you look more decent.” Mama continued after he fixed my necktie. “Is Daya ready, Ma?” I asked and we went out of my room. “I’m not really sure because when I tried to wake her up a while ago, she just wouldn’t wake up. You can go ahead first.” I nodded at that and headed out first. When I reach at school, I hurriedly went at our room. There were just a few of us so I seated at the last row where I am assigned to sit. It’s kind of annoying that I always get assigned to sit at the last row. I don’t really care about the seating arrangement but in every recitation, I am always called first because I have the surname next to letter Z. I felt my phone vibrated and I fished it on my pocket. It was Sarah, my girl friend. Sarah: I’m near the gate. Wait for me at the entrance, please. I shook my head and didn’t bother to reply. I stood up and went straight at the entrance to wait for her. My eyes widened when I’m about to come across Grant. He’s walking towards the room still wearing his poker face, hands on the pocket and a lollipop in mouth. I was panting hard when we were about to meet. My heart is beating excruciatingly as if it’s on a race. What am I supposed to do? Should I greet him? What if he’d ignore me? I pouted and continued walking, I’d greet him, and at least I tried. "Hello, Grant. Good morning." I greeted with a smile but he just continued walking as if he didn’t heard me so I just stared at him as he entered the room and was out of my sight. I could still hear from here the scream of my girl classmates. I turned my back and started walking towards the entrance to wait for Sarah. After quite some minutes, she’s finally here. “Hello, Sid! Why do you look so sad at this early morning?” she’s laughing why she asked me that. She raised her hand and acted to give me a high five but I just rolled my eyes. She placed her arm over my shoulder and we walked towards the classroom. "What's the matter?" She asked and I couldn’t answer but a deep breath. I shook my head. Sarah has been my friend since the eighth grade when she transferred at this school. We became close in an instant. She’s way prettier compare to me; with her natural wavy hair that doesn’t need to be curled, his tiny pointed nose, small and thin lips and soft face. She’s also tall, almost as tall as me. She pinched my at my waist when she didn’t get an answer with me, “Was it Grant again? Did he ignore you again?” She asked me. Aside from being beautiful, they are also rich. Her bags are all designer’s bags, her make ups, clothes… “Yes, as usual. He didn’t even gave me a look and greeted me back” I stated with a wryly smile. She used her hands to make my lips form into a smile. “You look like a duck when you pout, it doesn’t look good on you. Smiling suits you more.” she stated while laughing and pulled me towards the classroom. As we entered the classroom, a lot were already there. Sarah seated at the first row and me, on the last row. I take a look at Grant’s seat before I seated on my chair. My eyes caught the tons of gift beside the empty chair of Grant, maybe they were given by his fans. I suddenly wonder the feeling when a lot of people admire you… a lot of people would look up to you and they’ll give you a lot of attention. Maybe it’s overwhelming… and hard. “Where’s Sid?” I stared at the door when I heard my name. I creased my forehead and my classmates pointed me. The guy went near me. He’s a grade twelve student. He placed a small box in my table, “Someone wants to give you this.” Then he’s gone. He’s really weird, ever since. He goes at our room for twice a week to give something to me. If not food, then it would be a flower and he won’t tell me who’s giving it. I only know two things about him- he’s Raphael Sabante and he’s weird. I shook my head and wondered what it is this time. The teacher was late for a minute but started to teacher right away, before the discussion ended, she even asked me a question as to which I haven’t answered. I don’t mind anyway, what’s important is to pass. I don’t need high marks. I couldn’t help but stare at Grant’s seat once again, and I was surprised to see that he’s also looking at me, with a lollipop still in his mouth. Grant… I really do not know how his brain works… I swallowed hard because I couldn’t take the intensity of his stares. I always tell myself that I would greet him whenever we’d cross ways, I’d do my best to bring back how we used to be but whenever he’s right in front me, I am easily getting affected by shame. “Sid, let’s go eat lunch together,” Sarah invited me. I got my bag and placed it over my shoulder and the box Raphael gave me. “Sid, your secret admirer sure is very persistent,” she teased me as to which I answered with a laugh. “Crazy… the one who’s giving this isn’t even courting me.” “But don’t you think it’s weird? He’s been doing that for how many months already. Who do you think is he?” she asked curiously. “I don’t have any idea and clue.” She looked at me with wide eyes, “Don’t you think it’s also Raphael? Maybe he’s saying that someone wants to give it to you so he won’t be shy.” I shook my head in s instant, “I think it’s not him, and why would he even offer me gifts?” “I don’t know… maybe he likes you? What if he likes you?” As we were about to enter the cafeteria, Grant talked out of nowhere. How did he even reach here without me feeling his presence? He got the gift that was given to me and gave me another one. “That’s much better than this one. He stated looking so serious before leaving me still shocked. My mouth is slightly opened, what did just happen? “What was that? That’s weird of him.” Sarah stated while she shook her head. “I also do not know why… I wonder what he was thinking.” I whispered to myself. “Sometimes, I wanted to think that he’s pa-fall. Like he wanted you to fall in love with him even more without the intention of catching you.” Disappointment is visible in her face. I also think of the same thing at times… but I don’t entertain the idea that much. After all, he’s my best friend. “Let’s go and just eat. I’m so hungry.” We bought rice, banana, menudo and a can of coke. We ordered the same thing and looked for a vacant table. To my curiosity, I tried to look for Grant’s table and he’s sitting tabled apart from me. To my surprise, he caught me staring at him so I just started eating. “Do you have something to do later?” Sarah asked in the middle of our meal. I nodded at her, “I won’t attend later, I needed to do something.” I answered as I drank on my coke. She pouted and glared at me, “You’re always absent during the afternoon class. What would eb your excuse this time? You’re sick?” she’s still glaring at me. “You know what Sid? Your love for dancing isn’t healthy for you anymore. You should prioritize you study more. What are you planning to do with your life? Dance until you become old? Grow up, Sid… that’s the reason why Tita has been calling here at school." She continued eating. I thought of her words carefully, was it really too much? But this is what I like to do with my life. This is where I’m happy. I’m not happy studying and the only thing that makes me go to school is Sarah and Grant. “Sarah, you know that this is where I’m happy right? Dancing is part of my life.” I tried holding her hand but to no avail. “I know that you love dancing but it’s unhealthy for your well-being. That’s not good anymore, Sid. It’s still okay to prioritize your studies and dance when you’re free. Give some time to study since that would be for your future.” She looks sad as she says those things. “Don’t you really have plans on taking your studies seriously? If only you’d know how to manage your time, there won’t be any problem.” I pouted at her remarks. “How would I manage my time? Enlighten me.” I stated playfully trying to lighten up her mood. I’m sure that she’s too annoyed right now. “Attend class when there’s class and when there’s none, you can attend your practices. You can also practice after class since our class ends early.” She stated which made me nod. “All right, I’ll ask permission from Zhed if it’s okay. Please don’t be mad anymore.” She rolled her eyes on me, “I’m not mad and I don’t care if you a failing mark. Even if you repeat the school year, I do not care at all.” She stack out her tongue on me. After eating, we stood up to leave and I saw that Grand wasn’t there anymore. “It’s still early for the first subject in the afternoon class, let’s go shopping first.” Sarah invited me. “Sure, I’ll inform Kuya Zhed first.” I said and texted Kuya that I’ll be late because I still have class. “Let’s go!” She smiled sweetly at me as she clung on my arm, “Don’t worry, it’s my treat this time,” Which made me smile. There’s nothing wrong in accepting one’s treat right? Or it depends in the situation. Sarah has a personal driver so it wasn’t hassle going to the mall at all. “Let’s go at the clothing section first. I wanted to buy new clothe. Choose for yourself as well. Don’t mind the price, just get whatever you want.” She pulled me inside and that’s when we got separated. As usual, I got clothes in the color palette of black, white and gray. If not an oversized shirt, I would choose pants and chains. I also got clothes for Mama and Daya. Time passed by quickly and we attended our subjects in the afternoon class. We left our shopping bags inside her car and I’ll just get it later. But as I roamed my eyes around the classroom, I couldn’t find a trace of Grant. Maybe he needed to do something important. I’m also curious as to why Grant doesn’t want to study in a private school. He’s popular and he’s always been flocked by his fans. He doesn’t even have bodguards with him. “Thank you, Sarah! See you tomorrow. Text me when you reach home, okay? Take care.” I waved at them and smile at her driver. “Of course I’ll test you. Good bye, Sid!” she smiled at me and then she closed the door of the car. I was humming my way inside the house. I knocked on the door as to which Mama opened right away. “It’s a miracle that you attended your class the whole day, Sid!” Her eyes stopped at the bags I am holding. “What are those?” Mama asked. “Sarah invited me to go shopping. It was her treat. I also got something for you guys.” I placed the shopping bags on the couch. “Where’s Daya, anyway?” I was looking for her because she’d always tease me when I get home. I removed my uniform and left the short shorts with a sando bra. “She’s in the kitchen. You should eat as well.” To which I nodded. I was shocked to see a guy’s back. I see we have a visitor today. I noticed my sister staring at the guy smilingly, so I creased my forehead. I sat down and placed my bag on the table. My eyes widened when I saw the face of our visitor, “What are you doing here?” I screamed at his face. He stopped on eating and stared back at me. His eyes widened at the realization, “Hillow!” I twisted my lips involuntarily because of that; don’t tell me that he doesn’t know what hello means. “Why are you shouting Sid? Sit down and calm down, will you? Don’t treat a visitor that way. We should actually be thankful to him.” Mama defended the guy as she seated beside Daya. “What’s your problem, Sis,” Daya asked. I chose to ignore her and asked Mama, “What do you mean, Ma?” Daya is now staring at the guy while eating. I promise my face must be looking so awkward right now. He looks like he hasn’t eaten for days and is very hungry. “I went to the market a while ago and on my way home, I passed by the park. I was shocked when someone grabs my wallet. I was shouting for help and he was there to help me. I was surprised that he was so skilled in fighting. He’s told me that he’s nowhere to live and he couldn’t remember his name. So I’ve decided to keep him with us for the meantime. He also looks harmless.” I stared at him and he did the same, but he was fast in avoiding my stare and continued eating instead. “Even if he stays her forever, it would be okay with me,” Stated Daya whose still looking dreamily at the guy and I had to throw her a rice ball because of that. “Stop fighting, you two. We have a visitor.” Mama stated. “A visitor would go home after a while, but him, he’s staying here with us.” I was annoyed as I start to eat. Mama slapped on the arm, “Just eat, all right? This is still my house and I have the right to decide whether who will live here and who will not.” She eyed me. "Yes, it's my pleasure." Daya added. I pouted, “I am the daughter but she’s favoring a stranger.” I whispered to myself. “Starting today, you’ll call him Triton and you should treat him as your brother.” Mama is even clapping her hands like she was ecstatic. It was Mama’s wish to have son, that’s why. "It doesn't even suit him. Triton is a cool name, and he's not." I complained which earned me a slap on the arm. I stopped eating and drank water. I stared at him while he’s still busy, “You don’t really remember anything?” I asked. He look at me like I was some antagonist in this story, “N-none. I promise, I can’t remember anything.” Then he avoided my gaze once again. “You can’t even remember your name? How come,” I interrogated more? Maybe. Daya interrupted, “Ate, you’re intimidating him!” but I just rolled my eyes which made her annoyed more. “I’m done eating. I’ll head upwards, Mama. I still have a practice.” Then I left them. They called my attention but I didn’t mind them anymore. I went straight to my room and changed my clothes. Treat him as our own brother? Seriously? “Hey you, don’t ever leave my side. Don’t go anywhere without my permission because the moment you get lost, I’d be the one who’s responsibility. I can’t believe that Mama favor you over her own daughter.” I tried to intimidate her by raising my brows and pointed my finger on his face. He avoided my gaze. Tsk, weak. I was surprised when he held me on my shoulders and slightly pushed me, “Hey you too, do not also be a brat. I hate bitches like you the most. When we’re together, you don’t have to be worried of me because I’m not a kid anymore and I can handle myself, alright?” He also raised his brows on me and messed up my hair; he smirked at me and left me alone. I rolled my eyes and chased him, “Hey you. What a plastic two-faced person you are. When Mama and Daya are around, you act like the gentlest sheep in town but when you’re with me, your attitude is trash!” I shouted at him. He stopped from walking and slowly turned his head towards me, “For a girl like you, you are something. You’re too noisy and you keep on sprouting nonsense things. Do you have no brake in your mouth? A motorbike is better than you.” He shouted back at me. What a demon! I shook my head and didn’t mind him anymore. I don’t know why but my blood instantly boils when he’s around. He’s the only person that I hated the most and I wanted to kick him out of our lives that bad. We didn’t talk with each other until we reached the wide space. They were all there, starting their warm up. “Hey, sorry I’m late.” I apologized. “It’s all right,” Kuya David stated. He went in front of us and started talking. “I would be the one to check on you guys since you Kuya Zhed is busy doing something. I hope that everyone would cooperate so we can go home right away.” I eyed Triton who’s just seated in the side, staring at the sky as if thinking so hard. I can now distinguish the difference in his look. He’s way neat right now; Mama brought him to a salon to give him a makeover. He’s wearing a white pants paired with a black polo. Too plain but it looks good on him. In terms of his face, he’s no doubt handsome. His brows are just normal. His eyes are bright and expressive. His nose is pointed and his face is small which suits his pinkish lips so bad. “Sid, let’s start. What are you waiting for? Start running now.” I swallowed hard and do as stated; a bit shy that Kuya David caught me staring at Triton… “I still couldn’t get used in the world of these normal people; it is way different from our world. They way of living is different, unlike from the countrymen of Hanyang.” Minseo kept his gaze on the sky. In their world, the sky looks so mesmerizing but in this realm, their sky looks awful. At night time, there are no visible stars that could be seen, but in Hanyang the stars are skinning so bright up the sky. He wonders what they could have been doing there. Was there any celebration now that the headache of the palace is gone? How’s Jun, the Queen and his play dolls there? I do not have a mother already; the Queen and Mother that I was referring was my Father’s mother which is my Grandmother. They told me that she’s dead but how could I possibly believe when they couldn’t show me her body; the body of the woman who gave my life in this world. I know my Mother’s face structure… I saw her image before the king threw it to the flame. “Don’t you dare try to use you peculiarity in this realm, dear prince.” He was agitated when he saw the mysterious woman from the forest. “It’s you again? How you did possibly went here? What are you doing in here?” He asked her a lot of questions, of course it’ impossible for her to be right in front of me, unless the King commanded her. She stays stilled on her place, “Let’s just say that I was the one assigned to watch and check on you in this realm. As what I’ve said, you’re forbidden to use you powers in this world because if you did so, a chaos would occur.” She said. “Why would there be a chaos? What kind of people are they? Don’t they have powers within them?” He asked which made her shook her head. “They’re just normal people, Dear Prince… but they have a lot of knowledge about things.” I smirked at that, “Are you really sure you’re the one assigned to watch over me?” He asked once more, confirming what she said. “Yes, Dear Prince. Do you doubt me?” She asked him, irritated. “Is it wrong if I say yes? You’re one of the weirdest people I met. I don’t even to as to where city did you came from.” He said eyeing her. She met his gaze and eyed him with the same intensity. The prince got affected because those eyes seem so familiar for him, like he saw it before, in a place he couldn’t recall. But he was certain that was the first time he saw her eyes because at their encounter at the forest, she was avoiding his gaze big time. “I order you to tell me their language here. Why don’t I know that?” He asked her. The mysterious girl chuckled, “You’re a prince but then you don’t have an idea about their language. That’s why you get from always escaping from the palace instead of reading.” He raised his brows on her, “What did you said again? Did you just say that a prince like me doesn’t know a thing?” He shouted and his eyes turned red, an indication that he’s mad. He felt his hands freezing but the mysterious girl is gone and Sid appeared. “Hey moron, what are you doing right here and why are you talking by yourself? Are you finally out of your mind?” Sid asked him. His hands stopped from forming an ice spears but his eyes were still fuming red. “Wait a minute, what happened to your eyes? Are you wearing some contact lenses?” she asked him. He was surprised for a second to know that he understood what she said. He roamed his gaze around the field and found the mysterious girl hiding behind a bush. “What are contact lenses?” He acted dumb because she might get suspicious if she knew I understood her now. She laughed, “You’re pronunciation is getting better. Anyway, that was nothing. Your eyes are back to being black. Maybe I’m just tired. Let’s go. My practice is done.” He nodded and she turned her back on me, didn’t even offer to help me stand. Tsk. As they walked by, He noticed that Sid was profusely staring at her cellular phone but she would turn it off again. This girl has been teaching me a lot and I’m of not ignorant of things now… He thinks that maybe the mysterious girl is right, that the people in this realm knows about a lot if things even when they are just normal. Their knowledge should not be underestimated. “Why don’t you just call that one you’d been thinking of? So you’d stop from turning on and off your phone. Tsk.” I recommended. “Close and open? Where’d you learn those words?” her c***k eyes are now looking at him suspiciously. “I didn’t say such words. Could you please clean your eyes often because I believe you’re becoming deaf now?” He avoided her haze, but when he did so, he saw a van approaching their way and people might get affected. He stopped the time and pushed the van further away from the people. He turned to their position a while ago, besides Sid and stared at her face, such a beautiful lady but she’s nosy. Women like her in Hanyang are soft spoken and sweet, but she’s… not. Then his eyes caught her lips. It was slightly opened, as if inviting to be kissed. He swallowed hard at the thought. She wouldn’t know if he’d kiss him, right? So the playful side of him tried to kiss him but to no avail; he felt like someone is watching him. He stared at the side and saw a guy peeping. He thought that it’s impossible because he time stop. No one should be moving unless he said so. He smiled and didn’t mind the nosy person. He made the time come back to its track and he felt the blow of the evening wind. “Hey, wait for me.” Sid was screaming again. “You really are so nosy. Can you tone down your voice for a while?” He annoyingly stated and rolled his eyes but he got shocked when Sid was now running and trying to capture him so he did his best to run away. He’s laughing hard as she chased him, as well as Sid who was laughing already. But when they reach home, the brat of a woman that Sis is came back. She rolled her eyes unto him and left him alone. Minseo laughed at that. “Mama, I’m home.” She removed her shoes and socks as well as her bag and she went to the kitchen. “Oh, where’s Triton?” Her mother asked her which made her frown. “I am your daughter but it you were more concerned of him. What and unfair world?” and jealousy was evident in her tone. “Don’t be such a kid, Sid.” Her mom rolled her eyes, “Where’s Triton? Don’t tell me you left him alone?” asked her mom and eyed her sharply. Triton entered the kitchen and interrupted, “I am here.” Her mom invited Triton to have a seat and offered food to eat, “Come here, Triton. Make yourself comfortable and eat a lot, all right?” Sid was now rolling her eyes and the crease in her forehead looks so deep now. She feels that she’s the outsider in here. “Sure, thank you.” And Triton did so. Daya showed up out of nowhere, “Mama, could you help me with my homework in mathematics? It’s so difficult; I hate my teacher so much.” Sid thought that maybe she came straight from her room. Mama frowned, “Just admit it that you’re just not listening to your teacher.” Sid contradicted and widened her eyes on her. She made an annoying face, “Oh, really Ate, says the one who got straight D in her report card.” Daya counter reacted so Sid just tsked. “What’s that? Let me take a look,” Triton volunteered. “And the legal child is at it again,” Sid whispered by herself but Triton seemed to heard her and winked at her. He got Daya’s notebooks and checked it out. He read something in there and started to write or jot down. After a while, he returned it to Daya with a smiling face.
