THE NEXT TIME I WOKE, daylight cast brightly over my face. This time my eyes flew open easily. There was a thick canopy, woven with strange patterns, above my head. It stretched right over the bed and draped down on either side, then tied at the bases of the ornately carved pillars. I squinted in confusion. Why am I in a four-poster bed?
