The beeping continued but she knew she was awake, her arms felt heavy, it was hard to breathe. Evee slowly opened her eyes, blinking a few times and the bright room came into focus. Hospital, great, she groaned internally. Aside from the bed and monitors the room itself was fairly empty, a small cushioned chair in the corner and a counter with a sink and some cabinets next to the door on the other side. She tried to sit up but everything ached and she was exhausted. She laid there trying to remember what had happened when there was a small knock at the door. A petite woman in scrubs came in “Oh Good! you’re awake, I’ll let the doctor know.” Evee nodded to her as she left the room.
Less than ten minutes later the nurse returned followed by three others; the first was a tall older woman in scrubs and a coat who she guessed was the doctor, a thin woman with miles of gold ringlet curls wearing a sun dress and her boss Layla, who rushed over to the bed. “I’m so sorry this happened, how are you feeling, does anything hurt?” She leaned nervously over the bed rail. Evee laughed a little “I think I’m ok calm down I’m not gonna sue the company or anything.” The nurse began taking her vitals and asking if she had pain anywhere. “Yea my chest hurts a little, like it’s hard to breathe, there was a fire, right?” The Doctor and the blonde woman exchanged glances. “Yea hun, they think you passed out from all the smoke and hit your head, do you remember anything else?” Layla asked a bit more nervously than Evee thought was necessary. She suddenly became very aware that everyone in the room was now staring at her intently. “Uh, I don’t think I hit my head, but can I go home now? I’m ok really.” The Doctor cleared her throat and took the clipboard from the end of the bed. “Evee, I’m Dr Howard. We need to run a few more tests on you if that’s alright, and as long as those come back ok, we should be able to get you out of here before dinner.” Dinner? What day was it? She can’t have been out that long. The Doctor continued on “Looks like you inhaled a lot of smoke got a few scrapes and bruises and have a possible concussion” Why did everyone keep saying that? She knew she hadn’t hit her head, the guy had caught her, she and the other girl were already on the ground… THE GIRL! Evee sat bolt upright “OMG there was a girl with me I think she was unconscious is she here, is she ok?” Dr Howard nodded “Yes she’s alright, her name is Celeste, and she’s in the room across from here.” Evee relaxed a little, glad the girl was alright.
“I’m going to ask you a few questions ok, try your best to answer them”
Evee was starting to get annoyed with the Dr treating her like she’s slow or something, she passed out at a car fire, she didn’t take a bat to the head. She nodded along in agreeance to get this over with, she wanted to be in her own bed.
“Alright, can you tell me your full name?”
“Evelyn Rea Taylor”
“Great. Do you know what month it is?”
“September”
“Right, doing great, where were you before the hospital?”
“Yea, I was working the event center, checking IDs”
“Mmhmm, then what”
This seemed like a weird concussion test, didn’t they normally ask you like who the president is and stuff? “There was a car accident and the fire and the girl…” Evee trailed off thinking about the insane scene she remembered vividly running from the crash.
“Do you remember anything after you pulled Celeste from the car?”
The lady at the pond was for sure a smoke inhalation dream, but before that she had been on the ground watching as these massive creatures fought in the street, but if she said that they’d probably have her committed. She hesitated “There was a fight, road rage thing…” The more she thought about it the clearer it was, there had been at least five gigantic wolf beasts trying to tear each other apart in that street, and they were stopped by some invisible force after another wolf charged in. It was completely insane, if it hadn’t been so clear in her mind, she would have to say it was a dream. She stared off at the wall behind the doctor and thought about the huge silvery wolf changing into a man right in front of her eyes before she passed out. The curly haired blonde who had been leaning against the side wall scoffed “Oh yea, she remembers alright, vividly, all of it. Your witches’ Kool-Aid didn’t work.”
