CHAPTER FOUR

IN THE POLICE STATION, five men and two women were working busily. Two of the men were talking on the phone, and the other people were checking various papers. One of the two women was typing something on the computer.
McNamara entered the office with an alert step, with James in tow, and asked, “What’s new, boys and girls?”
“Nothing, sir, I hate to tell you,” one of them answered regretfully. “We’ve found just nothing to solve this case.”
“Not really nothing,” a woman’s voice replied cheerfully.
“Got something new, Jo?” McNamara asked the young woman, at the same time putting his coat on the peg near the door.
