Chapter 2

Arriving at Moonlight Pack

Colt's POV

"So what time do I have to be there?" I ask my Beta who insisted I attended Moonlight Pack's Luna ceremony.

"8:00 pm sharp, for cocktails and appetizers, you don't have to stay for the party, but Jeremy is your friend and his father helped you a lot with the council two years ago after all that mess with Alpha Landon." I don't like these type of events, everyone is so pretentious and false is really annoying, on the bright side, good deals always come from these things and tonight's ceremony is special, Jeremy is a very good friend of mine since childhood, not to mention his father, Alpha Dalton had my back two years ago with the whole Alpha Landon situation.

"I'll go to the ceremony but I won't stay for the party, I don't feel like mingling, I can't stand the looks everyone gives me, They think they know what happened with Landon but in reality they have no idea, and they think they have the right to judge me." My life has been surrounded by gossip for the past two years. We still get invited to social events because my pack is strong and growing, our pack land is a great producer and provider to many packs, and we have some of the best fighters in the country, that is why several packs keep us as their ally, but that doesn't mean that they are all our friends.

"You know how it is, but it doesn't matter, our pack is still strong despite all the rumors, being close to Moonlight is an advantage to us too, as long as they are our ally, we will get the support of other packs, and that is more reason to go to their Luna ceremony."

"You are right, our friendship with Moonlight is a great advantage, and I don't see that changing anytime. Our ties are strong. Is getting late, can you check if Pam is ready? we need to leave now if we are going to make it on time. She insisted on going. She thinks her mate could be there."

"You shouldn't be going with her to these things man, every time you do it, she comes back acting like she is Luna, it is causing confusion within the pack, at the very least, you should send her to her own house, being in the pack house is not good for her." He tries to reason with me, but we have talked about this many times before, and I will not change my mind. I also know that he doesn't really care for her. Every time she is in the same room as him, he leaves making an excuse, so talking about Pam with him, is not a good idea.

"Andrew, Pam has gone through a lot, I owe it to her to help her, plus there is also little Steve to think of.They are my responsibility. what kind of man would I be if I gave her my back after what she endured because of me? her own family doesn't even want to have anything to do with her, she only has me, plus, Pam does a great job, she might not be my mate, but she has taken all the responsibility happy and willingly." My answer is definite, Pam has been a great support since I became Alpha at an early age, and we have been through so much together, I can't just get rid of her.

"That is exactly my point. What if you find your Luna? you know how Pam feels about you and your Luna will never be ok having her here, and Pam will make it impossible for her."

"Andrew, we are not talking more about this, Pam stays." I don't forsee finding my mate anytime soon. At times, I think that I should give up on finding her and choose another.

"Ok, Alpha, as you wish. Pam is ready when you are." He says bowing. We have never been on the same page about Pam, but he is loyal and knows when to stop.

I exit my room and head to the stairs that take me to the foyer where my date is waiting for me. She looks beautiful in a floor- length black strappless dress. She is more on the skinny side, but tonight, I most admit that her dress accentuates her body in the most perfect way. Her red hair is tied on a pony tail, leaving some loose curls at the bottom. She has always portrayed elegance. Why have I not made her my Luna? She is the perfect choice, the pack is used to her and they respect her, she had taken so many of the Luna duties in my pack, that the transition would be easy for everyone, and I know that she has feelings for me, she just is too proud to even show it. All those are prefect reasons but I am not attracted to her, never have, I can only see her as a friend and hope that we each find our mate one day, although now at 26 I'm not so sure mine will ever show up.

"Colt, you look great! If my mate is at this party, he is gonna be jealous of you." She says, giving a sexy smile and with her eyes displaying a hint of darkness. I usually don't take her to my events, but this time, she insisted to the point where she was crying. She thinks she will find her mate and I want to help her, so she is coming.

"You look beautiful, Pam. I will be the envy of the party, I'm sure." I offer my arm to her, and she holds it eagerly as we exit the pack house.

I let her in the SUV that will be taking her to the ceremony, and I take my own separate one. I prefer to drive by myself in case I decide to stay. Sometimes, Alpha business keeps me away, and it's not appropriate to have her stay with me. It will certainly give her the wrong impression, plus her place really is within the pack house, with her son.

After two hours on the road, we are finally close to Moonlight Pack.

After a short while we make it to the border, there is a lot of security tonight, we had to pass at least three filters, until we are able to see the lights of the pack house showing us the way.

"Wow, this pack sure knows how to throw a party and spend their money. This house is huge." Pam says, taking my arm and pointing at the magnificent pack house that today displays even more elegance than I've ever seen. Moonlight's pack house is one of the biggest I've seen. They lodge several warriors, not to mention the Alpha, Beta, and Gamma families.

The front has bright lights showing the way to the stoned stairs that lead to the entrance. two warriors guard the big wooden doors that give access to the house. They just nod in acknowledgment when they see us and let us in.

As I approach the house, an uneasy feeling takes over me. My wolf is all over the place and can't contain himself. He is pacing in my head, I look around, but other than the many more flowers than usual, nothing seems different, but even so, I am on high alert, I don't know what the night is going to be like, and my wolf can't stop whatever is bothering him, even he can't explain what he is feeling, he is not sure why he is feeling like this.

"Colt, you made it!" An excited Jeremy calls my attention as I enter the house. I walk towards him, walking with Pam, who doesn't let go of my hand.

"Jeremy, I wouldn't miss this for anything. Congratulations, man!" I say, giving my friend a hug. I'm happy that he finally found his mate. I know that just like me, it was very important for him to find her.

"Hey, while you are here, my dad and I would like to discuss some deals that I think might benefit both our packs. If you want, your date can be escorted to the ballroom, and you will catch up with her when we are done. If you don't mind, miss..." He says addressing Pam.

"Collins, Pam Collins Alpha. I'll start heading to the ceremony while you talk. It was nice to meet you, Alpha, " Pam says, walking away from us, giving me one last look and an inviting smile.

"Man, your date is beautiful. I know a few unmated wolves that will envy you." Jeremy says, smiling and patting me on the back.

"Yeah, she's definitely beautiful. But I still hope to find my mate one of these days." I say with a sigh.

"You do right by waiting. It is the most unbelievable feeling. When you meet her, you will understand why no other woman was ever enough." He clearly is in love with his Luna, and I can't help but feel a little envy, I have been yearning to find my mate for years without luck.

We head to his office, where we discuss several matters that indeed will benefit both packs. Because of our proximity, they are the best pack to combine efforts.

Alpha Dalton and I stay behind talking about other topics, while Jeremy heads down to the ceremony that will make his mate the official Luna of Moonlight Pack.

When we finally head downstairs, I find my seat next to Pam. My wolf is still feeling uneasy, but I decide that is nothing. He is probably confused.

We are halfway through the ceremony when the uneasy feeling that something is happening starts to increase, I am feeling nervous and excited at the same time. Suddenly, there is a sweet citrus flower scent in the air that is making me crazy, is like an orange tree in full bloom was just put in the room and the scent is so f*****g sweet I can almost taste it. It is making me lose my senses, I feel like the room is getting smaller, and I have an uncontrollable urge to go towards the source of the scent. I look in front of me, and it suddenly dawns on me what's happening, I can only see her brown hair falling in curls down her naked back, she seems to be wearing a bright red dress and if I try to look a little bit closer, I can get a glimpse of her beautiful toned legs. My mate is here right in front of me, The moment I have been waiting for so long is finally here, I can't wait to see her and to hold her in my arms. After all these years, I was about to give up, but now, I am so close to her.I can barely believe it. My wolf is trying to scratch the surface, It is taking everything in me to control him, especially when I am so eager to claim her myself.

"Colt, are you ok? What's wrong?" A concerned Pam asks me. She must have noticed how impatient I am, I won't be able to hold much longer. This is torture for sure.

"I'm ok, Pam. I just want this to end, that's all." She gives me a smile and squeezes my hand for comfort, but right now, I only want to be with my mate, and I clench a little at Pam's touch.

"Just go to her!!!" My wolf demands, and if I don't do something soon, he is going to take over.

"We have to wait. it's almost over!" I scold him. But he is relentless and keeps bothering until he realizes that I won't give in.

The elders finally finish, and the ceremony is over at last. Everyone stands to applaud and start moving towards the stage to congratulate the Luna.

The moment I have waited for so long is here. My heart is beating faster than ever, and the anticipation is killing me, I feel like a f*****g teenager with his first crush. Is time to meet my mate.
