Ariah’s POV
We get to the clearing in less than a minute. My mind is racing, my heart beating out of my chest. I really don’t like Alpha George but right now, I could kiss him for not having all the other pack members around to watch this. My nerves are getting the better of me and I can feel a slight panic attack coming on.
“Ariah” Angie snaps “your body was made for this, if you couldn’t do it this gift wouldn’t of been given to you by the moon goddess”
“I know that Angie but I’m allowed to be nervous” I snap back at my wolf.
Just before we get into a massive mind link argument, Alpha George appears with his Beta David.
“Ariah” he looks at me sternly “Marie, Daren’ he”looks at mom and dad “are we all ready”
“Yes” I reply with the smallest voice possible.
Alpha George points to rock I’m to stand on without saying another word. I walk over, trying to put on a brave face to show I’m not a weak member of the pack. I don’t know what rank my biological parents were but I’m assuming, depending on what my wolf looks like, Alpha George will know and that will seal my fate.
I chose to wear a loose fitting white dress, something easy to slip on and off before and after my shift. I start to strip off when I feel all eyes burning on me. Being wolves, we don’t shy away from being n***d, it’s not something that bothers us, well, most of us. Me, I’m different. I don’t like being n***d in front of people. I haven’t the worst body in the world but I’m self conscious about the way I look nevertheless.
I turn around to look at my mom, dad, Zoey, Sam, Alpha George and Beta David.
“Do you mind” I shout out before I can stop myself.
“Just get on with it child” Alpha George shouts back with a sound of impatience in his voice.
“Are you sure she’s a wolf” I hear Beta David say as him and Alpha George laugh.
I turn my back to them, if they must watch then they can just get a good look of my arse, nothing else. I take my dress off and place it neatly on the rock.
I see the clouds move over so the moon is now clear with nothing in its path.
‘Here goes nothing’ I think to myself.
As soon as that thought crosses my mind, I feel the moon on my skin. In seconds, my bones start breaking one by one as I scream out in pain. This is a pain I’ve never even felt close to before, agonising is an understatement. It’s brutal and seems to last forever. I struggle to catch my breath. Every time I feel it’s nearly complete my bones break more. I scream out for my mom to make it stop although, I don’t know if them words are even leaving my mouth. I feel my teeth turn into fangs and witness my claws coming out of my hands. Surely not much longer now I pray to the moon goddess. It’s like she can hear my cry for mercy because before I know it, the fur is forming on my arms and just like that, it’s over. I’m fully shifted after what feels like hours of pure t*****e.
I look down at my white paws, smiling inside that I did it.
“Let’s run” Angie beams at me.
I don’t even need to reply, I take off for the forest, running faster and faster on my four legs.
My senses have heightened massively, I can feel the grass between my paws like I’ve never felt grass before, I can hear the bids and squirrels in the trees as if they were standing right next to me and I can smell the air, I didn’t even know the air had a smell before.
Zoey was right, it was so worth the pain, I feel so free and alive.

Marie’s POV
Listening to my little girl scream out in pain was killing me inside. No mother likes to see their pups in pain and not be able to take it away from them. It’s taking my whole being not to run over to her, pull her into my arms and tell her everything is going to be okay and it will be over soon. My heart is breaking. I look at my watch, it feel like this has been going on for a lifetime but in reality, it’s only been 45 minutes, I dread to think how much longer Ariah has to suffer like this. I feel I should shout to her that she’s doing well and not to worry, but the stern look on Alpha George’s face tells me that’s not a good idea.
After another 10 minutes, I can’t believe my eyes when Ariah shifts to her full wolf. I have never witnessed anyone shift in less than 3 hours before, yet, Ariah seems to have managed it 5 minutes short of an hour.
Something else that takes me by surprise is the colour of her wolf. She seems to be pure white, again, in my 45 years of living, I have never seen anyone have a pure white wolf, it’s simply unheard of. Also, for a small girl, she has an extremely large wolf.
‘Maybe she has a patch of colour on her somewhere I’m yet to see and maybe her biological family had large wolves for their size’ I think to myself.
It doesn’t take my girl long before she dashes off into the woods. We have to wait for her to return, giving her time so get use to her wolf alone.
I look over to Alpha George who now looks furious, I can practically see the red in his eyes.
“Everything okay Alpha” I ask curiously.
“Fine” he snaps back at me.
“I have never seen a white wolf before. Does this give you any indication of who her biological parents may have been? Or what rank they were in?” I ask him hoping I will have more to tell Ariah about where she comes from.
“Does that matter?” He asks sternly “she’s Omega. She lives with you. Her parents are history, history does not need to be brought up”
I stare at him “do you know anything about her parents because she would love to know. It would make her birthday if I could give her a little information about them” again hoping.
“No” he yells at me, daring me not to ask anymore questions.
I feel like he’s lying, actually, I know he’s lying. It’s written all over his face. Why will he not share what he knows? I think I’m going to have to do some digging and find out for myself if he’s unwilling to speak about it.
Me and Daren were never able to bear children of our own, so the day Alpha George had this little bundle in his arms asking if anyone would take her in, I jumped at the chance, the chance to finally be a mother. For some unknown reason, I cannot remember for the life of me where the pup had come from and I was that besotted with her, I didn’t push to ask either. I did ask a few years later when Ariah started asking questions, I wanted to know the answers but Alpha George said he lost most of his memories after the death of his brother and family. The Moonshadow pack were adamant Alpha George was the cause of their deaths, but he reassured us, it was a rouge breaking over our boarders. We lost friends and family that day, the day they decided to go to war with us, it was a living nightmare, but I cannot remember any of our pack members that lost their life having a pup, so I’ve always assumed Ariah was found, her parents being from another pack and Alpha George being a good man welcoming her in, into our pack, giving her a chance of life.
Now I can honestly say, I’m not sure I believe anything he said.
I see Ariah come from behind the bushes. She is dressed back in her lovely white dress. I must of been too caught up in my thoughts to realise she came back and shifted to her human form.
It’s time to get my girl home. I’m not gonna get anything out of Alpha George so it’s pointless.
I will find out for myself..
