Ryder’s POV

“What the hell you i***t! You let her leave” Riley barks at me as Ariah leaves the principal’s office.

I’m getting extremely pissed off with the way he is speaking to me lately. We’ve always been in sync but this last week, that couldn’t be any further from the truth.

“I have a plan” I bark back at him.

“Oh. A plan” he snarls “that worked out really well last time didn’t it”.

“Lucy was a mistake”

“Yes. A mistake. Your plan was a mistake” he’s now growling.

“Listen. I don’t want her ignoring me and keeping her distance. I want her close. I can’t tell her I want to be with her until I speak to my dad. So for now, I will keep her close and be her friend. I will show her I’m kind and caring with the hope she will forgive me and want me too” I explain to my wolf.

“It better work Ryder. I spoke to her wolf when she was here. Her wolf wants me. She says Ariah wants you too but you’ve broken her heart and trust. You need to get it back” my wolfs word’s surprise me.

She wants me too!

I can’t help this stupid smile that had cropped on my face.

“I intend to” I say ending the mind link.

Since what happened on Monday, Ariah telling me goodbye, something inside me broke. I know she said it was nothing to do with me, the reason she was upset, but I know it’s a lie. I think I did actually make a mistake, actually, I know I’ve made a mistake. As much as I need to consider my pack and my soon to be Alpha status, the need for her is that strong I’m struggling to fight it. So that being said, Dad is currently away on Alpha business but as soon as he is back, I will speak to him with regards to Ariah and go from there. If dad says I can accept her as my Luna, I intend to do so. I can’t even bring myself to think about what I’d do if he says it’s f*******n. He is not here to speak to right now so until he is, I am going to do everything in my power to prove myself to be the mate she can love and trust with the hope I can accept her fully.

Lunch time soon approaches. I walk into the cafeteria. I know my mate is in here, her scent seems stronger than ever after this mornings interaction. My eyes dart around and I spot her, joining the end of the food line. This is my chance to see if she will in fact, say hello to me.

I walk to the line and stand behind her. I know she can sense me near, her body goes tense.

“Hello Ariah” I beam

“Alpha” she doesn’t even turn around.

“You didn’t say hi” I joke.

Finally she turns around to look at me. I could honestly get lost in them beautiful eyes of hers.

“Hi, Alpha” she smiles but it looks forced.

“Please, like I’ve said before, call me Ryder”

“Your an Alpha so I will call you Alpha”

“But we are friends now” I tease.

She now smiles, it looks more genuine ‘friends’ she tries not to laugh.

I feel like she’s warming to me, slowly but surely.

We get to the front of the line pretty fast. Ariah ordered her lunch with a dinner lady as I ordered mine with the other.

“Pizza, fries and a coke” we both say in sync.

I look at her and she blushes.

My heart melts seeing her so shy.

“Great minds” I wink at her “want to eat together?”

I look into her eyes hoping she would say yes. I can see she wants to but I feel she is not for giving in that easy.

“Maybe next time” she smiles and walks away with her tray in hand.

She sits with her friends as I go to the opposite side of the cafeteria to join my Beta.

I can’t help but look over every now and then, sometimes I catch her looking back at me but she soon snaps her eyes away from mine when she notices me staring back.

“Riley” I mind link my wolf “I can’t fight it anymore. We will have her, she’s ours. She’s our mate”

I can feel his tail wagging excitedly.

Ariah’s POV

The conversation in the line made me feel more at ease around Ryder. His laugh made my heart skip a beat. I’m unsure of his intentions, he does not want to be my mate, but my friend. I could handle that easy if it wasn’t for the fact I just wanna wrap my arms around him and embrace him in a hug, anything to touch him.

“I want to do more than hug him” Angie stirs in my mind.

“You dirty, horny wolf” I laugh “there will definitely be none of that”.

“Spoilt sport” she says as she makes her way to the back of my mind.

I feel his eyes burn into my soul when I was trying to eat. It made me feel too nervous to take a bite, knowing I’m being watched. I look back at him every so often but quickly snap back down to earth. Friends I need to keep telling myself. I was happy to hear the bell ring, indicating that our lunch break is over.

The end of the day comes around quick. Today was not half as bad as I thought it would be.

“Ry” Zoey shouts over to me “wait up”

I stop and wait for my best friend to catch up to me.

“Hey babe” I cuddle her.

“I’ve just grabbed us two tickets for the prom on Friday” Zoey squeals with excitement.

“Who said I was going Zo”

“Shut up! Of course your going. Tomorrow, we need to go shopping for our dresses” her eyes light up.

“Yeah I’m going” I laugh “can you not just pick me a dress and I will send you the money?”

“Where’s the fun in that?” She laughs back.

“Fine. But we are not going to every shop in the mall Zo”

“We won’t go to every shop, just the ones that sell dresses”

“That’s near enough every shop then” I roll my eyes.

“It will be fun” she nudges me “pick me up at 10 o’clock” she kisses me on the cheek and walks to her bus stop.

“See you tomorrow Zoey” I wave.

I walk to my car. The car park is practically empty already, indicating most people have already left. Ryder’s sports car is still parked a few spaces away from mine, I can’t help myself but to look around, to see if I can catch a glimpse of him.

Nothing.

I turn to face my car and bump into a hard wall. As I look up, I realise what that hard wall was as his gorgeous eyes meet mine, sparks that I’ve never felt before bouncing around my skin that touched his and his amazing smell hitting my nostrils.

“s**t” I say aloud rather than in my head.

He must of felt the sparks too because his eyes have changed colour slightly, either that, or he’s.. I don’t know what else it could be.

“Friends say goodbye to each other when they are leaving” he winks.

“Friends do say goodbye to each other if they were walking together before parting ways” I roll my eyes.

I don’t know why but I feel frustrated every time he refers to me as a friend, although him winking at me does make me go week at the knees and I’m glad he’s by me.

“You were looking for me, we’re you not?” He now has a smug grin on his face.

“I.. I was.. I seen..” I can’t even get my words out, I’m turning a bright shade of red.

“Relax” he laughs “I was looking for you too”.

“Why” I ask bluntly.

“To say goodbye to my friend of course”

I roll my eyes again.

“Goodbye Alpha” I smile at him

“Goodbye Ariah. And it’s Ryder”

“Alpha Ryder”

“Just Ryder”

“Whatever” I smirk as I get in my car and drive off.
