Chapter 5 : Platinum Card

"How could you be so careless?" Mia asked as anger flashed in her eyes Ryan watches in pure silence and soon examines the scene. He wondered where she was when the whole thing happened because this was a very quiet bridge and he hadn't noticed any public space nor anyone nearby on his drive across it. "what are you doing here?" Ryan asked "It's not that difficult to notice a driver falling asleep on his wheel, you know, " Mia said, ignoring his question as she sniffled. The rain was drizzling at this point but they were both wet anyways. Mia wondered how a man could look so handsome despite the harsh weather…. "You're saying, you only noticed me because my head was on my wheel?" Ryan asked as though what she said was ridiculous "I think you have bigger problems here because the man you see in that truck tried to drive your car off the bridge. Do you know him?" Ryan glanced at the truck in question and approached it in pure silence. Mia was right. Somebody wanted him dead. The truck was ridiculously close to his bumper and would have easily swerved if it was a supposed accident. The truck was hard at his heels Ryan moves closer to the driver in disbelief; someone wanted him dead. Ryan pulled down the nose mask and stared at him. He wasn't someone he knew. He took a picture of the driver's face as well as the plate number of the truck. He was going to find out who had sent him even though he knew who could have possibly done something so despicable. "Is he someone you know?" Mia asked curiously. "I don't see anything that could have brought you here." Ryan said walking up to her, leaving barely an inch of distance between them "Are you stalking me ?" he asked Mia chuckled in disbelief. She had just saved him from a near-death situation and here he was accusing her of stalking him?! Who does he think he is? A celebrity? "I was in the bus over there when I noticed this particular truck tailing you. Normally it was none of my business but then I noticed that it was you. I even waved at you but you were carried away" Mia said with a glint of excitement. Ryan's cold look was enough to quench all her happiness. "I had to stop to find out what was going on," she added slowly. Ryan nodded as though taking in what she had said. "You do this all the time?" Ryan asked. "Do what?" Mia asked "Wait for people because you think they are in danger? It makes absolute nonsense to me" Ryan said walking towards his car which was still suspended in mid-air. He bolts in and picks up his essentials before bolting off again. "Woah! you're fast" Then Mia recalled Ryan's last statement. "That is no way to appreciate someone who just saved your life!" She said "I never asked you to save me. I would have been fine if you did not interfere you know" "You are unbelievable! You would have preferred being dead ?" Mia asked as though Ryan needed medical attention for being obnoxious. Has he lost it? Mia wondered "Go home," Ryan said, secretly pleading with Mia. He wanted to be alone. "Fine! I'm on my way already!" Mia turns and leaves in anger. She just saved his life and he was being so grumpy about it! She was only trying to help and here she was getting scolded for that reason. He and Grannie are the same! Mia headed back towards the bus station hoping to catch a bus in the heavy rain. Ryan walked up to her with his hands in his jacket. He pointed at her and motioned her to come over with his finger. Mia chuckled at his boldness. He has some guts uh? Mia looked away as though he wasn't talking to her. If he wanted to call her he might as well be polite. "Hey, I'm talking to you!" Ryan said " I told you my name the last time we met. Use It!" She snapped. Ryan found himself clenching his fist. He wasn't in the mood for all this drama. "Mia, get over here now!" Mia stared at him with her eyes wide open; he remembered her name… He just called her by her first name. "That is so creepy," Mia said to herself. "You're not going to get any bus tonight if you decided to leave things frozen." It was then Mia realized that everything was still frozen. She felt embarrassed and childish as she snaps her finger and everything returned to normal. Ryan's car flew off the bridge and the driver drove off as though nothing happened, retaining a wicked smirk on his face. "He was really after you, wasn't he?" Mia asked, watching the driver leave. "Aren't you going to stop him?" She asked a bit confused. Ryan faced Mia with a small frown on his face, as he placed his hands in his pocket. "How did you know he was after me?" Mia sighed. " Well, the dumpster site is on the left but the truck kept following you. And as far as I know, the truck drivers are not allowed to take it anywhere else except the dumpster." Ryan eyed Mia suspiciously. Mia exhaled, more like a groan. "I know this because I have worked in all the weirdest places in the world," she said. "Why am I being questioned by you?" she asked, folding her hands. " You were the one who didn't want to be saved and now you want me to answer questions? Go find it out yourself! "Mia said and boarded the bus that took a stop at the bus station. Ryan watched her walk into the bus and settle in the back seat. She frowned and looked away from him as the bus drove away. Ryan exhaled. Somebody wanted him dead tonight. He wondered what would have happened if she wasn't there in the first place. He might have missed that important detail. He was already out of his car quite alright but at least he knew that someone cared about his safety. But someone wanted him dead. Who? Why? Just when he decided to sort his life out, someone draws out a sword. Ryan knew he was going to start all over but from where? He wasn't sure. He tugged his hands deeper into the pocket of his jacket and felt a flat plastic rectangle inside. He pulled it out and realized it was the platinum card his father had given him Eli.. .that old man. He never listens. Ryan walked towards the edge of the bridge and held up the card to throw it off the bridge…. Eli's words echoed in his mind… As much as this money means nothing to you, you might need it For all the years that Ryan knew Eli, he was a man of few words and those words had hidden codes…. Ryan knew that if he wanted to start all over, he wasn't going to stand that long if he made use of Tim's support. He wanted to start on his foot. To start was not the problem but organizing his already shattered life was the issue now. Ryan stared at the card in his hand; it was unlimited and had his name on it. Ryan chuckled. His father had this well planned after all… Is he going to start off using this money? Was this what Eli was talking about? Ryan found himself sitting by the bus station deep in his thoughts. He leaned back on the seat, his head went back as rain droplets fell on his face… Trying not to remember how much his father detested his existence…. it was all in the past now and he had to move on. He is a man after all. He needed a plan. A solid plan. And that would only happen after he finds out who that man in the truck was. And why he tried to drive him off the bridge. At least he had his photo and the truck's plate number. That was more than enough evidence. If his father had a hand in this, he wouldn't be that surprised. He was an extremist….just like him. If truly his father was behind that accident...would he get Robin arrested? Should he go after that person or should he let it be? The second was out of the discussion. Rya needed to talk to someone and the only person that came to his mind was Tim. He needed to talk to his grandfather. He needed to let him in on his new plan. Ryan exhaled as he felt relief wash over him, he had finally sorted out the issues he had. Quite. He stood on his feet and then realized that he didn't have a car to drive home. For the first time that evening, he felt sorry for raising his voice at the young girl who tried to save his life. 'Maybe if you were nicer she might have done something to save your car from flying off the edge' Ryan thought Now the road was empty and rain was still falling heavily. How on earth was he going to get home? Ryan found himself walking down the bridge towards Tim's. He knew he would be half-dead by the time he gets there; it pretty chilly and his jacket wasn't of much help. A black USV pulled a stop beside him and the window thinned down; it was Leo " Get in" **** "I was starting to get worried about you," Tim said as soon as Ryan appeared at the front door "What happened to you, my dear? why are you so wet?" Grace asked running her hands over Ryan's arms in worry. "Did you play pin pong in a pool?" Tim asked a bit surprised. "You over there!" Grace turned to face one of the maids in the house. "Yes ma'am?" "Get me a blanket" Grace instructed. The maid rushed to the cleaning room to get the blanket. "Good day," Leo greeted politely. "Ah, how are you?" Tim asked fondly. "I'm fine sir" Leo replied. "Why is he soaking wet and you aren't? Were you two not together?" Grace asked "I had a little accident with my car" Ryan explained. If he told Grace someone tried to kill him, the old lady might end up with a heart attack. "Accident? Are you okay? Do you need to go to the hospital?" Grace asked eyes red in worry. "Stop causing such alarm. My boy looks fine to me" Tim said examining Ryan from his head to his toes. "What do you know about kids? They hide their pain from us all the time!" Grace yelled. "I'm alright Grace" Ryan assured. The maid returns with the blanket and Grace wrapped him up as though he was a child. "You could have called us! What if something bad happened?" She asked. "Why would you walk in the rain? what is wrong with you? Don't you know you would catch a cold? Do you know pneumonia is real these days?!" Grace scolded while trying to dry Ryan's hair. This... these are the ones who cared about him. "Hey, there's no need to bombard him with so many questions. We don't even know what happened yet" Tim said. "I will explain everything later Grace. I need to head upstairs" Ryan said with a small smile on his face. "Of course. Kim! Make Ryan some hot soup!" Grace instructed as she escorts him up the stairs. "Do you know what happened?" Tim asked immediately Ryan was out of sight. "No sir. But he wasn't with his car when I got there" Leo explained. Someone had sent Tim a message, saying Ryan was in danger and that he needed help. Tim had to send Leo off to avoid alarming Grace about what happened. "Were you able to trace where the message was from?" Tim asked again. "It was untraceable sir. My apologies" Leo bowed his head. Tim exhaled, who could have done this if it wasn't his so-called son. "You may leave" Leo bowed his head and was soon on his way "Keep an eye on him. Just in case anything else happens" Tim instructed. Leo bowed again, a bit worried about his friend Ryan...
