CHAPTER 6 Strange disappearancesAs soon as they had finished lunch, Jules set off for the town hall. He hadn’t been to the village since his arrival at Howlingdeadman. He walked alongside the stream that ran close to the park entrance and down to the village. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon, with a slight breeze which was quite pleasant at this time of day. The road was deserted and only the birds could be heard chirping in the trees. When he got to the start of the driveway leading to the high school, he stopped. It was as dark and bleak as the one that led to the de Crochemarres’ house. Two huge red brick pillars stood on either side of the entrance.
