Chapter 11 11.15 a.m. David picked up the detached ribbon. In a daze, he curled it around his finger and released it over and over until it fell and became a bookmark. He closed the book and sat there, rubbing his finger over the wooden figure of Eve on the cover. His stomach was raw, his head pounded and his legs felt like a lorry load of wood had tipped on them. It couldn’t be possible. Couldn’t be. She couldn’t have done that. Not that. She was his wife. His wife. She belonged to him. His imagination ran amok. He pictured a bedroom far away.
