Chapter 17-1

1050 Words

Chapter 17 4.45 p.m. Emmeline stopped moving altogether as the marchers went past her in unison. They continued to walk and laugh and talk, as they headed towards Hyde Park. She noticed new signs around her now, adding to the placards about equal pay and equal rights. She was struck by the sheer number of protesters who were clinging to messages which demanded ‘Women’s Bodies, Women’s Right to Choose’, or words on a very similar theme. Adrenaline began to build and pump around her own body as her excitement at being here constantly did battle with her memory which was reliving her own pain. To her own shock and amazement, she heard the voice deep within her escape and begin to shout. Not speak – really shout. She jumped up onto a bench that sat in the bushes at the side of the pavement.
