"What the...." I said breathless. I cautiously walked over to Daniel. Shakily, I stuck out a finger to poke him in the shoulder. When I did so, the book fell and Daniel stumbled having been in mid stride. I yelped.
"The f**k just happened?!" Daniel jumped looking to see that I was in a different location. "Wait....how did you-"
"I think it's safe to say something else has changed...." I cut him off. Daniel must have noticed my uneasiness. He pulled me into his arms.
"Are you ok?" he asked looking down at me. I nodded. "You're handling this surprisingly well."
"Oh hell no, I'm just as freaked out as you obviously are. I'm just choosing to save my outbursts for even bigger s**t I expect to happen." I sighed trying to calm down. "Daniel......I don't know what's happening but I'm pretty terrified at the moment. What's next? What if I end up killing someone by accident? OH MY GOD! What if my parents knew I was dangerous? WHAT IF I KILLED THEM?!" I shouted. Tears were pouring down my cheeks.
"Lydia look at me." Daniel's voice was low and cold. "Don't you ever blame yourself for what happened to your parents....ever....again." he said the last words so slow and fierce it made me flinch slightly. I nodded even though I wasn't fully convinced. His look softened as he took my face in his hands looking deep in my eyes. I felt a shudder go through me as the sparks erupted under his touch. "You aren't dangerous. Definitely different but not dangerous. You would never purposefully inflict pain on anyone. I promised you we would find out what is happening to you. I always keep my word Lydia. I will always protect you, I swear to you with my life." His words were so gentle and calmed me down more than I can explain.
My heart was moved by his words. Like an uncontrollable reflex, I stood on my tip toes and pecked him on the lips. The action was so sudden it caught Daniel off guard. His eyes grew dark and a smile crept across his face.
With one swift movement his lips were crashing down against mine. A soft moan escaped me as I parted my lips letting the kiss deepen. A low rumble escaped his chest voicing his approval. My head was spinning as our tongues danced together.
I felt his hand wrap around the back of my neck making an escape impossible. His other hand was playing with the hem of my shirt like he was waiting for my signal. He was putting everything into this kiss.
Placing my hands on his chest I could feel the muscles tighten under my touch. I could feel every emotion coming off of him in waves.....worry, sadness, anger, bliss, passion, arousal........lo- wait! I pulled back suddenly earning a low growl from Daniel.
I held up a hand trying to catch my breath. He was gasping for air as well. "Wait....something ....hold on" I said between breaths. What the hell was that? Once I caught my breath I motioned him to stay in place. Closing my eyes I focused on my surroundings.....nothing. A wicked grin was forming when I opened my eyes.
Daniel raised an eyebrow as I slowly approached him. I wanted to test something. Looking him dead in the eye I warned him not to move. I stood just inches from him as I placed my hands back on his chest. I closed my eyes and concentrated. Hmm I wonder.....
"Kiss me" I demanded looking up at him. His lips were on me immediately. This time he was rougher, his hunger driving me crazy. I completely forgot what I was doing and let my self go. This was pure decadence.
Sparks lit up my whole body. The warmth from a sunny summer day surrounded me as he poured all of his passion into me. Waves of ecstasy crashed against me to the point where I was fighting consciousness. Never have I ever felt anything so incredible. I could see stars as the world whirled around me.
"What are you doing to me?" he mumbled against my lips. Hell if he only knew what he was doing to me?! On the verge of entirely giving in we were interrupted by his phone ringing. He snarled loudly breaking the kiss and ripping the phone from his pocket.
"What!" he roared. I jumped. I've never seen him react like this. Daniel's eyes narrowed as he listened to the other person. "I'll be right there." he snapped ending the call.
"I'm sorry there is an issue requiring my attention." Something was off.
"Is something wrong?"
His eyes softened as he ran his thumb across my lower lip. "Nothing you need to worry about. I won't be long.......I'm not done with you yet." He grinned wildly as his eyes started getting darker. My breath hitched making him chuckle. With a quick kiss he was gone.
I stood there breathing furiously. What. The. s**t. I was reeling from everything that had just happened. I froze time....practically threw myself at my mate and.....oh yeah...I could feel everything he was feeling. That new 'power', I guess you could call it, I really liked. It could come in handy in the future. My thoughts turned wicked just thinking about what I could do to him. However, it only happened when we were kissing. Hmm I wonder if it could happen otherwise. 'Maybe I could practice' I smirked. Ok I need to stop before I get carried away.
Walking out to the balcony to get some air I stared out into the woods. Oh how I would love to go for a run right now. 'Stupid human body' I thought until something stopped me. I can't be entirely human if I had abilities....could I? I wish there was a way to find out what I was and what more I could do.
*BUZZ*
I looked to see a text from Daniel.
"Sorry darling it's going to be a few hours before I return. I'll see you in the morning"
I frowned and looked at the time: 11:56pm. Holy s**t! It's that late already? Well maybe I'll stay up a little longer.
The moon was full, lighting up the forest and the lake in front of me. The view was breathtaking. I breathed in the crisp night air when an awful idea popped into my head that I just couldn't resist. Everything should be ok if I stayed close. An hour wouldn't hurt. After all Daniel did say he would be gone for a few hours.
Making the final decision I grabbed a jacket from the closet and headed downstairs. I hope no one is awake.
~~~~~~~~
To my splendid surprise the main room was empty. I decided I better slip out the back door quietly for good measure. I felt a little guilty but I would be fine. Since I've been here I have stayed cooped up in the house or with Daniel. At home I had been spoiled, being allowed to go off alone to have much needed time to myself. I really needed that now more than ever what with all of the changes. A little walk in the woods won't hurt if I stay close. I also have my phone in case anything happens.
Reaching the back door I stepped outside and walked towards the woods near the edge of the lake. I could use the water as my guide in case I decide to get too adventurous.
The woods was the perfect cover as I disappeared into the darkness. The moonlight reflecting off of the water served me well as wandered further. I listened to the evening symphony of crickets and frogs as I stepped over branches and a few fallen trees. My mood was improving already after travelling a short distance.
'Perhaps I could do this more often when Daniel works late' the thought gave me hope.
I checked my phone to see it had been an hour already. No missed calls or messages....yeah I'm fine. Maybe I'm far enough now to practice. I emerged from the woods to stand on the water's edge.
'Ok I'm not quite sure what to do but here goes.'
I spread my arms to my side, my palms facing outward and waited. Nothing. Yeah I'm kinda feeling stupid. Maybe if I close my eyes......clearing my head as l focused. I became lost in the sensation around me. The night sounds and flowing of water growing faint. I felt more relaxed.....nothing else. Ugh I guess everything else will just remain a surprise which frustrated me to no end. Sighing loudly I decided to give up and opened my eyes. Huh that's weird why are the trees short-
Looking down I found myself quite a few feet off of the ground. Panic overtook me as I screamed plummeting to the ground as the darkness swallowed me.
~~~~~~~~~
Moaning I put a hand to my head as I started to come to. Yeah this was a very bad idea 'Good job Lydia'. I scolded myself as I tried to sit up. I was stunned into silence as I opened my eyes.
The meadow!...... I gasped and jumped to my feet. Oh I'm back! I ran towards the beach to find no one was there. Odd. Turning around I ran in the opposite direction. To my delight my mother was standing in the meadow waiting for me. Why wasn't she there when I woke up? I shook away the thought and leapt into her arms.
"Oh mom!" I cried. She held me running a hand down my back. "I'm so sorry I cut my hair!" I choked out.
"Hush baby it's alright" she whispered pulling back. I looked up to see her smiling. "You're beautiful sweetheart."
I couldn't help but beam at her approval. I'm glad she wasn't upset. "Mom....did you know what would happen if I cut my hair?" I asked hesitantly.
My mother didn't answer. Instead she took my hand and led me out of the meadow and on to the beach. I never thought I would see her again. She looked the same yet different. Her blonde wavy hair fell to her shoulders. My sisters all had her hair of which I was envious. A long white sleeveless dress hung around her slender frame. She was always so pretty. We just reached the beach when something caught my eye stopping me in my tracks.
"M-mom.....w-where did you get that?" I stammered. There on her right shoulder, as perfect as day, was a glowing moon just like it described in the book. Her smile fell to a frown as she looked at me apologetically.
"There is so much I wish to tell you Lydia but it is not the right time."
"When is the right time mom?! All of these things are happening to me and I don't know how to control them! What if I hurt someone!" I raised my voice. I tried to control my anger. How could I be yelling at my mother? I shouldn't but she's been keeping secrets from me my whole life and that wounded me to the core.
"Sweetheart" she said softly, cupping my cheek "You were not born to hurt but to heal and to protect. You will learn who you truly are when the time is right. For now you need to remain by your mate's side constantly. Daniel is the only one who can protect you now."
"What are you talking about? How do you know about Daniel? Protect me from what?.......Mom!.....Mom!" I yelled after her as she walked away like before while my feet were frozen in place. My sobs were deafening as I screamed for her.
A hand on my shoulder freed me from my stance. Startled, I spun around to see the gorgeous white haired woman smiling at me with tears in her eyes as she pulled me into her arms.....
Gasping I snapped upright looking all around me. My chest heaving as I struggled to control my breathing. I was still by the lake, the woods at my back. Light was starting to peek through the trees on it's journey towards the water. s**t. 'What time is it?!' I grabbed my phone but it had shattered from the impact of my fall. Ugh great! Thank god I stayed close to the water, I'll just follow it back.
I moved to stand only to fall back down. Crippling pain radiated through my right ankle.
Yup. This is officially the dumbest thing I have ever done. Now I'm crippled in the middle of f*****g nowhere with no way to contact the outside world. If an animal doesn't kill me Daniel surely will...if I ever see him again.
Fighting through the pain I was able to stand up balancing on my left leg. With great difficulty I hobbled over to the edge of the lake. I needed a drink before I attempted to go anywhere. Bending down I dipped my hands into the water. I lost my balance falling forward.
*SPLASH*
Fantastic. I didn't even have the chance to push myself up before I was yanked upwards. Coughing to clear my lungs I looked up to see who helped my clumsy dumbass. I wish I didn't. A pair of pitch black eyes were glaring at me shaking me to my very core.
Holding me upright in a death grip was a very....very....VERY enraged Alpha.
Oh s**t.
