CHAPTER 10

In the midst of the chaos and tensions running high, Nolan was missing from the hospital, and Estelle was desperately searching for him, driving her car everywhere. Meanwhile, Michael was trying to find the traitor at the company, and Layla was worried about everything, an employee faced Michael honestly

At the Jefferson company,

The employees handed her phone when she recorded all the meetings of Estelle and the Killian investors!

Michael in a cold demeanor: "You will get a promotion if you are not the traitor. Also, the Kilians won't be able to help any intruder since they are doomed."

The employees responded with determination: "We were afraid of losing our jobs. We should worry about our skin since we are simple employees, Mister Michael. Your relationship with your daughter doesn't concern us."

Michael replied: "You are right, but I don't need employees who shut their mouths when they see wrong things happening. I am a fan of strong, confident characters who defend against injustice."

The employees clenched their hands and lowered their heads, knowing he was partially right.

Michael saw the video that the employees recorded and pressed his fists tightly, saying in a low voice: "I am a failure as a father, but I won't let them get away with this. I need higher forces, but it's not easy to join them right now."

On the other side, Estelle was lost in her thoughts in the car, heading to Killian's company, hoping she would find Nolan there. She got a call from Lisa.

Lisa: "Hey Estelle, did Lucas call you?"

Estelle, in a hurry and annoyed: "Why would he?"

Lisa, in an ashamed tone: "My mouth accidentally slipped, and I told him about the messages when I was angry at him."

Estelle sighed: "Why on earth would you do this? Nolan is already missing, and now Lucas. But Lucas is far away from here, so I should focus on finding that injured Nolan. He refused to pick up his phone."

Lisa, shocked: "Did he really escape from the hospital?"

Estelle, worried: "That's why I am heading to the Killian company."

Lisa, afraid: "Wait, it's risky there. I will come with you."

Estelle: "No need, Lisa. I will handle the situation."

Lisa, surprised: "Wait, have you seen what Lucas's company published?"

Estelle, ignoring Lisa: "It's not the time for this right now."

Lisa yelled: "It's time because they are speaking about the Kilians and that their products are filthy! They are insisting on the news because they are exposing Killian industry’s deep secrets."

Estelle, shocked: "What? They mean the secret file! But how? I will call you later, Lisa. I am about to arrive."

Estelle hung up the phone.

Meanwhile, at Killian's company, the fire alarms triggered, and all the employees were taken outside. A mysterious person entered Jerimiah's office, turning it into a mess. Jerimiah was scared and called for security, but nobody was inside the company.

It was Nolan.

Jerimiah was stunned: "What are you doing in here?"

Nolan sarcastically: "Well, I heard the alarms, so I was worried you’d get outside before I arrived."

Jerimiah fixed his eyes on Nolan: "You will regret stepping into this office! You don't know who you are playing with!"

Nolan sarcastically: "I truly don't know, and I don't care. I won't regret it since I am going to make you pay for every fear you made Estelle feel."

Jerimiah laughed mockingly: "So the prince arrived to defend his princess. How romantic!"

Jerimiah laughed insanely: "But that lady is such a treasure, I don't want to miss."

Nolan punched Jerimiah without stopping, then broke the glass windows and pushed his head outside.

Nolan made a call: "Well boss, I am making problems in the Killian company. Would you do me a favour and turn off the security cameras?"

Steven: "What are you doing there? Have you lost your mind? Weren't you at the hospital?"

Steven straightened himself: "Give me your reasons and a favour."

Nolan, smiling sarcastically: "The reason is they got on my nerves and tried to harm Estelle. Second, I will give you a tip to continue your blocked project."

Steven: "I think you convinced me, you insane thing! Suit yourself. I did it with one click."

Nolan sarcastically: "Too long. I would do it in a second."

While Nolan was hanging up his phone, Jerimiah punched him in his injuries and tried to reach the door.

Nolan, in pain: "You bastard!"

Nolan took a cane there and hit Jerimiah on the head. Jerimiah fell but remained conscious. Nolan captured him, returned him to the window’s hole, and punched him again.

Nolan angrily: "If you say anything about her, you are doomed!"

Jerimiah started laughing sarcastically until he noticed the big-screen news in front of his eyes.

Nolan sarcastically: "Oh, what happened? You look puzzled!"

Jerimiah showed a dark look, furiously: "Who dares to publish this?"

Nolan, pretending to be surprised: "Who knows, maybe the police?"

Jerimiah, in rage: "You dare challenge us, you filthy thing!"

Nolan sarcastically pressed on Jerimiah's hand: "The only bastard here is you, and this hand. I will break it."

Nolan broke Jerimiah's hand, and Jerimiah started screaming out of pain

Nolan in rage: This is what you deserve for trying to get your hands on her

The police came to bust the place, finding Jerimiah's head stuck in the window's hole. He was just yelling out in pain, accusing Nolan Smith of causing this, but they didn't even listen to him.

Nolan managed to get outside from the back door, feeling pain in his stomach, and his injuries hadn't recovered yet. He was out of breath when he found Estelle crying, waiting at the front door.

Estelle, upset: "Do you know how much I was worried about you? Why did you lie to me?"

Estelle showed an angry face: "I didn't ask you to defend me, are you crazy?"

Nolan, feeling pain: "I have a headache, I can't think. Can you scold me later?"

Estelle, getting angrier and crying: "You are stupid! Look at you, your injuries are open!"

Estelle hurried to Nolan and helped him get to the car, returning him to the hospital to treat his injuries.

Nolan opened his eyes and found Estelle sleeping, her head on his hand. He looked at her, relieved, then touched her hair and kept smiling until she started waking up. He moved his hand.

Nolan, in pain: "Oh, my poor hand. You crushed it."

Estelle, furious, took the pillow and started hitting him: "You stupid, rebel boy! You dared to shout at me. Because of you, my weak side showed off, and I became sensitive. I shouldn't have followed your lead. You think you're a hero because you beat him!"

Nolan, in pain: "Ouch, I am injured. You should be gentle with patients."

Estelle, annoyed: "You deserve that! Didn't I tell you that I would be the one to bring down the Kilians? But you stole that role from me! I feel like I have been full of myself for nothing!"

Nolan, dumbfounded: "Is that all you care about? Didn't I free you from them?"

Estelle, looking upset: "Set me free? I thought we were together in this. I am disappointed in you!"

Nolan, concerned: "Disappointed? Of course, we were together, and now it's ended. No more nightmares for you."

Estelle, upset: "Yes, you did everything on your own and became my hero. I just wanted to be the heroine of my own story. I feel so useless now."

Nolan, concerned: "You are the heroine! After all the things you did, you are also worthy. I just helped you. I know I should have consulted you, but without you, I wouldn't have been able to do anything!"

Estelle, taking a deep breath, determined: "I think I overreacted. Well, thank you for your help."

Estelle, with a determined look: "I guess I should start the topic here!"

Nolan, worried: "What is it?"

Estelle, keeping the determined look: "Well, I think we should end our cosplay."

Nolan, surprised: "I feel pain in my heart. Is it related to my injuries? But what is the reason for this? I should know."

Nolan: "Can I know the reason?"

Estelle looked at him with a sad smile: "We should just let them get married. I know you don't like my father, but he cares so much about our mother. I felt guilty toward her. I just wanted to steal her from you for a few moments. I feel that she is the right person for my father. With her kind heart, she managed to convince him to help me. She always brightened my heart. However I treated her, she always supported me, and she likes my father so much. So I decided to bring them together. I am sure she will be happy, and that will make me relieved. This is all I can say to you. I am so sorry, but I can't keep playing to harm such a wonderful woman as her. You are very lucky to have her."

Nolan's eyes filled with tears: "You turned me into an emotional man. When you spoke like that, my heart melted."

Nolan, annoyed: "If you want to end it, I am fine with that. However, that doesn't mean that I accept your father."

Estelle smiled happily, laying her hand: "So, I guess we removed the fake thing. We are siblings, right, brother? We can keep the friend thing."

Nolan smiled, giving his hand to Estelle: "Yes, sister-friend."

Estelle, excited: "So, what do you say about organizing a surprise party at home to announce this news to them?"

Nolan, tired: "I hate parties."

Estelle surprised: "But it's just the four of us."

Nolan, tired: "Fine."

Estelle, curious: "Well, now answer my questions. How did Lucas's company announce all of that? How did you manage to deactivate the security system? And how did you inform all of your friends to announce the news?"

Nolan, tired: "I am exhausted, and a lot of questions at the same time. How can I answer?"

Estelle glared at him: "One by one!"

Nolan, sarcastically: "My answer to the first is that Lucas called me to check on you. I asked him about the Kilians, and he told me he was planning to end them on his side but couldn't find proper proof, so I told him about the file. He suggested the idea of the advert!"

Estelle, concerned with a sad voice: "Lucas is still worried about me?"

Nolan annoyed: "Yeah, so much!"

Nolan answered sarcastically to the second question: "Well, I got help from Steven to ruin the security system. I will return the favor to him. He is quite helpful when you need him."

Estelle, surprised: "Steven helped you! I thought he was mean, but he turned out to be a good person."

Nolan sighed: "For the third question, my friend Zack, the police officer, found some clues. I told him to send the file to Kevin, the famous journalist, and he risked his career for me. So, I owe him a big gift."

Estelle, surprised: "You are amazing. It's like you and your friends are secret spies! You gained my respect."

Estelle started applauding and smiling.

Nolan, with a warm smile: "You are funny, sister."

Estelle smiled back at him: "And you are crazy, brother."

Nolan pretended to be exhausted: "So, can I have some sleep now? Please go home."

Estelle, angry: "No, I will stay! I have the responsibility to take care of you! How dare you send your sister away?"

Nolan sighed: "Just leave. I will be back tomorrow morning. I have one week to rest."

Estelle took her bag and stuffed it annoyingly, saying as she left: "I will leave you on your own, brother," and shut the door.

Nolan laughed briefly, then he got a phone call. It was from his friend Jeffery, who owns the bar with the magical terrace, asking about his health and explaining he couldn't visit because his mother got sick.

Jeffery on the phone: "I wanted to thank you for helping me after you and your girlfriend visited my place. I was getting many calls about reserving it, and people booked it for work dinners. Some even wanted to invest in it. One person wanted to buy it and renovate it, but I suggested adding a third floor and renovating the first floor. I created an oceanic style concept, and he adored it. Now I am his partner. We are still renovating, but the second floor is intact, so I want to invite you and your friends for some cocktails there."

Nolan was surprised, accepted the invitation, thanked Jeffery, and hung up the phone. He remembered what Estelle had said to him before.

Last time at the second floor of the bar:

Estelle, happy: "This place should bring many customers. I will make sure it does!"

Nolan, showing a bit of sadness: "Well, it might not exist anymore. Jeffery invested all his money, but people don't visit it because of its location. His mother is in the hospital, and he needs to buy her medicines. His wife is in debt because he built this place. He might sell it to avoid problems and to pay for his upcoming baby's expenses."

Estelle, filled with tears, stood up determined: "I promise I will make sure he doesn't suffer anymore and turn this place into a well-known one!"

Nolan, sarcastically: "How is that? By giving him money or paying his debt? He will never accept."

Estelle, confidently: "I have a plan to help him without giving money. This place won't disappear; it will turn into our refuge when we face problems or want to enjoy our time."

Nolan, surprised: "You sound so sure of yourself!"

Estelle, primping her hair and smiling: "Of course, I am Estelle Jefferson, after all."

Back to the present:

Nolan kept smiling while remembering that, then said in a low voice: "I guess I won't be able to forget this name all my life: Estelle Jefferson."

At Hoods Company, Steven was in his father's office.

Father: "Well, Steven, interfering with the Killians won't be beneficial for you! Don't forget their technological industries! They are very powerful, and turning them down would be an issue for you!"

Steven smiled sarcastically: "Father, what are you saying? An issue for me? Are you serious? You've gotten older, father. I don't care, but if I bring them down, it means I gain benefits. I'm always reaching the top, and with my team, after adding a few members, we will excel. Don't underestimate my capabilities, father."

Father: "Well, I am proud of you. Your team is excellent."

Steven's proud face: "Of course it is. Imagine we take down one of the biggest industries. Also, I felt like I needed to help a specific someone."

Steven continued smiling.

Meanwhile, at the company where Lucas works, in the boss's office, Lucas was being scolded.

Boss, furious: "Are you aware of what you caused us? We were about to shine, and you ruined it by making the media interested in Killian's news! How are you going to fix this?"

Lucas lowered his head: "I am ready to be fired, but I did it without thinking, based on my emotions."

Piper, upset, interfered: "Father, calm down. He will fix this. He is my fiancé. Please don't fire him."

Lucas, determined: "I am ready to break the engagement and leave the company as soon as I can."

Piper, looking sad: "Lucas, you just did it because of her. How much do you love someone who gave up on you?"

Boss slapped the table: "Keep your private matters away, and since you are determined to resign, you must continue the new project and leave. We won't need you anymore."

Boss, coldly: "Of course, I won't accept someone like you with my daughter. Don't ever dream of it."

Lucas smiled indifferently: "As you wish."

Then Lucas left.

Piper, crying: "Father, I love him. He is the one I will marry!"

Boss, coldly: "He didn't even fight back when I said he doesn't deserve you. He will make you miserable, believe me."

Lucas received a message: "Thank you for your help, Lucas," from Estelle. Reading this text, Lucas showed a sad smile, thinking, "I regret losing you now a lot. I truly miss you so much."

Back at the Jefferson home, Estelle entered the house and found Layla, who took her to her father's office. Estelle felt worried, and when they arrived at the office, Michael was showing a guilty face but keeping his cold demeanor.

Layla, smiling happily: "Now, Michael, as we planned!"

Layla left the room.

Michael got closer to his daughter and then kissed her forehead. Estelle was speechless.

Michael, with a gentle voice: "I am sorry for being a failure as a father."

Estelle's eyes filled with tears. She pressed her fists and couldn't move. When he hugged her, she remained frozen.

Michael kept his gentle tone, caressing her cheeks and then her hair softly. Estelle, feeling sad, looked at him with guilt.

Michael: "Will you forgive me someday, Estelle?"

Estelle's eyes were filled with tears, and as they started dropping, she couldn't move.

Michael took a chocolate tablet from the drawer and gave it to her.

Michael, in a soft voice: "I couldn't remember all your favorites, but at least I managed to remember your favorite chocolate."

Estelle burst into tears and couldn't move. Michael got closer and hugged her tightly.

Estelle, wiping her tears: "Not right now, please don't force me, but I will try. Just give me time."

Michael smiled warmly and wiped Estelle's tears.

Michael, in a gentle voice: "Take all the time you need. I will wait."

Estelle left the room and found Layla eavesdropping. Layla caressed Estelle's cheek, tears filling her eyes. Estelle rushed to her room.

Layla entered the room and hugged her loved one, saying: "I am proud of you!"

In her room, Estelle started eating chocolate, smiling and crying.

Tomorrow morning, Nolan arrived at Jefferson's home, Estelle helping him to get out of the car, and Layla from the other side laying her hand worried

Layla: Son, are you alright?

Nolan, annoyed: "I will walk by myself, I can do that."

Nolan freed himself from them and walked quickly to his room. Estelle followed him. When Nolan lay on his bed, exhausted, Estelle shoved the door open.

Estelle, annoyed: "Who were you escaping from?"

Estelle, pretentiously: "Well, I am in a good mood today, and nobody will ruin it."

Nolan, tired: "I'm glad for you. Can you leave me to have some rest?"

Estelle, confused: "Why are you ignoring me?"

Nolan, sarcastically: "I'm not. I just need to rest to develop the idea for the project."

Estelle, upset: "You're truly ignoring me, brother. What's gotten into you?"

Nolan, finding excuses: "It's a man's room. Your brother needs some privacy."

Estelle, shrugging: "But it's my brother's room."

Nolan, annoyed: "Weren't we fake dating before? Don't you feel awkward?"

Estelle, awkwardly: "Why are you bringing up this topic? We already agreed on being stepsiblings."

Nolan, feeling guilty: "I'm sorry, I'm just overreacting! What did you want to discuss?"

Estelle, excited: "I prepared the cake and everything for tonight's party, so don't forget to dress suitably, Nol."

Nolan, surprised: "Nol? What's with this nickname? I guess only my closest friends call me that."

Estelle, smiling: "Well since you are my brother, it's better to have a nickname. Can I call you Nol?"

Nolan, indifferent: "As you wish."

Nolan, sarcastically: "Did you make the cake? Will our stomachs be fine?"

Estelle, annoyed, threw a pillow at Nolan's face and then left the room

Estelle prepared the living room and made a romantic dinner, filled with excitement!

At dinner time, Layla and Michael came downstairs. Estelle, dressed beautifully, brought Nolan, also in elegant clothes, beside her.

Estelle, happy: "Surprise!"

Layla, confused: "What is happening here?"

Estelle, happy: "Nolan and I want to celebrate your upcoming wedding."

Layla, surprised: "So you both agree on our wedding?"

Michael, impressed but in a cold tone: "Still, your relationship doesn't allow us to be together."

Estelle, excited: "Yes, that's why we've decided to stay as stepsiblings and stop dating."

Nolan, smiling: "We want you to be happy! Especially you, Mom. You deserve this!"

Layla's eyes filled with tears as she hugged both Nolan and Estelle.

Layla, touched: "I am lucky to have both of you."

Estelle, smiling: "So Layla, do you accept to be my second mother?"

Layla hugged Estelle again, filled with happiness: "Of course I do!"

Nolan: "You should prepare for your wedding. We want to have fun!"

Michael, in a gentle tone: "Of course we will. I am proud of both of you."

Estelle, giving such positive energy: "Let's have dinner."

The next morning at 9 am, everyone except Nolan was heading to their work after living through such a sorrowful moment, coming back to their daily lives but after many changes in their personality!

Nolan at his room working hard, Estelle becoming more famous than her father every businessman wants to work with her!

Nolan decided to gather Estelle, Lisa, Simon and Kevin at Jeffery's place as a celebration so he sent texts to them but Estelle interfered, and told him to invite his police friend and also Steven because she is grateful to them, He accepted but he was a bit annoyed!

Nolan suddenly got an unknown message" If you want to know the truth about your father meet me on this date xxx at this hour"

Nolan, after all that happened, decided to face that person, wondering if he would ruin his life or clear it.

At night, everybody was gathered on the second floor of Jeffery's bar. Estelle was the last to arrive and said in an excited tone, "Well, the queen of celebration always arrives last."

Nolan, Zack, Steven, Kevin, Lisa, Simon, and Jeffery all showed a smile, surprised by her presence.

Lisa, suddenly annoyed: "It's not fair having two girls and a million boys!"

Kevin, indifferently: "I came because I thought Nolan found me a girlfriend."

Lisa held Simon's hand and showed her ring with the other hand: "Sorry, I’m taken!"

Steven, sarcastically: "What about Miss Estelle?"

Nolan glared at Steven with killing eyes.

Steven, pretending to remember: "She's also taken by Nolan."

Estelle uneasily looked at Nolan: "Nol!"

Nolan, sighing annoyingly: "Well, we decided to be stepsiblings, so she is single."

Zack, smiling mockingly: "The rest are single. You can date whoever you want. You are welcome."

Zack winked at Estelle.

Steven, sarcastically: "Well, that's wonderful news. I'm sure you did the right thing."

Estelle, with a determined and confident look, smiling: "Being single doesn't mean I would date you guys, but all of you are my heroes. I invited you here to thank all of you for the support you gave me in facing such a horrible monster. I’m glad to have you guys, and I’m glad you exist."

Lisa started crying and applauding, which made everyone applaud!

Simon, concerned: "Lisa, you are so sensitive!"

Lisa, smiling: "Look at her, full of joy. Seeing her like that makes you very proud. Am I right, Nolan?"

Nolan, smiling: "Yes, you are!"

Estelle, speaking confidently: "Well everyone, I will open the first cocktail we share to make it memorable, so you should take a picture and a video!"

Steven, smiling deeply while looking at Estelle: "What a charming lady. She shines every time she smiles!"

Zack, surprised: "Have you truly fallen for her, Steve? It's not like you. I was about to give you some police data to find the right person."

Steven changed his demeanor: "Don't eavesdrop on people. Can’t I admire a beautiful thing?"

Estelle was heading toward Steven.

Estelle, unsure: "Well, Steven, I wanted to apologize for how I treated you first."

Steven, stopping Estelle from speaking: "Do this later! Now, enjoy these beautiful memories."

Estelle: "Alright."

Nolan moved Estelle away from his trio of friends.

Estelle, confused: "What's wrong?"

Nolan, determined: "They are annoying at night. Keep away from them and stay near Lisa. She missed you!"

Estelle headed to sit near Lisa.

Lisa, excited: "I heard that your parents are officially getting married!"

Estelle, smiling: "Yes!"

Lisa, annoyed: "I am jealous of them. Dad told us to have the wedding after one month because he is very busy!"

Estelle, surprised: "But it's not that far."

Lisa whispered to Estelle: "But we decided to marry early at the office and organise the wedding after that, so I need your help!"

Estelle sighed: "You are truly out of the ordinary!"

Lisa, smiling: "I know, that's why we are friends!"

Kevin took a guitar and started speaking: "We were in a group in high school, remember? I will sing this for the sake of the years we shared!"

Kevin, with a magnificent voice, started singing, and everyone applauded.

The party ended, and there were just Estelle and Nolan left!

Estelle, smiling: "We truly had fun!"

Nolan, tired: "Well, I am tired. I still haven't recovered, but I had fun."

Estelle, out of worry, put her hand on Nolan's forehead. Nolan kept looking at her and then moved away.

Nolan, annoyed: "What's wrong with you?"

Estelle, worried: "I was checking if you have a fever. You are still sick!"

Nolan annoyed: "Well, you scared me!"

Estelle, indifferent: "I didn't do anything wrong, you know!"

She looked at the sky: "I wonder what Lucas is doing right now."

Nolan felt pain in his heart and annoyingly said: "Why are you thinking of Lucas all of a sudden?"

Estelle, smiling: "He helped me too. I didn't thank him properly."

Nolan, annoyed: "Why is he filling your thoughts?"

Estelle, angry: "Nolan, he is the first man I truly loved in my life! You can't judge me!"

Nolan sighed: "Right, I am sorry. He also loves you!"

Estelle upset: "But I am sure he has a better life right now! I just remembered him out of gratitude."

Estelle took a deep breath: "Even if he is away, I don't feel upset without him anymore. I am proud of myself for reaching this stage."

Estelle looked at Nolan, smiling: "Maybe because I got a brother like you."

Nolan, uninterested: "Sorry, I can't think of Stella anymore. She did something unforgivable!"

Estelle, smiling and looking at the sky: Well, we are different cases, but I am sure we will overcome this heartbreak.

Nolan agreed

The next day, it was a normal morning like every day. Estelle and Michael headed together to the company. When they arrived at the parking lot,

Michael, in a gentle voice: "You can take over the company if you want that!"

Estelle, surprised: "What's with this all of a sudden?"

Michael: "I saw your capabilities at the meeting that time. You were amazing! You deserve the role of the boss more than me."

Estelle, in a tender tone: "I don't need this anymore. I give up on my revenge! Even if we are not this close, I am okay with you as my superior!"

At the Jefferson company, the employees were murmuring. Estelle and Michael noticed the mess and the panic in the employees' eyes.

Estelle stopped a worker: "What is happening here?"

The worker: "They said the original owner of Jefferson Industrial Stocks has come back."

Estelle and Michael headed to the office in a rush. They opened the door and found an old man with a strict look. His demeanor showed nothing but cruelty, and chills were coming from him. How can a person be so fearsome?

Estelle, coldly: "Who are you?"

Michael, in shock: "Dad!"

Old man, smiling: "It's been a long time, Michael!"

Estelle, in shock: "Grandpa???"

On the other side,

Nolan got a list of tasks from Steven as revenge for not returning the favor yet. He kept cursing Steven but knew he was right.

In his thoughts: I think I made a big mistake without even realizing it. How stupid of me! I fell into a dumb trap. How could I do that? I need to come back to my senses!

Nolan lay on his back fighting back himself still suspecting his father's death. He wondered if he would have to face the darkness again. He had been feeling a mix of emotions lately, very afraid of facing such a terrifying thing, and now his father's issue had appeared out of the blue. He felt lost and messed up, his heart racing again after a long time. What could this life be hiding from him? Would he be able to face this on his own? However, he was promised support by a specific someone who had turned his life upside down lately. She was his sister now. Could she stop him from drowning in these negative thoughts? He hoped so. Estelle had always been a beacon of light in his life, and now more than ever, he needed her strength and optimism to help him navigate through the storm.,

Estelle's perspective: Sharing such a happy moment hadn't happened in a long time. Between family, friends, and even lovers, we can't be sure of the future. We decided to enjoy the moment, keeping those sad events behind us and moving toward the future. However, there are some specific feelings still stuck in my head. What could we call this?
