Chapter 7 “…I also set up the meetings and other minor things.” She replied, uninterested at her own job. However, he replied with a smile, “I see,” seemingly very interested. “So kind of like a secretary. Do you like that type of job?” She gave a nervous laugh, “No, not really. I mean, it’s not bad. It just gets a little boring sometimes if I’m honest.” He chuckled, “That’s too bad, I was going to offer you to be my secretary.” She widened her eyes at the offer. “Really? Like part-time?” “Full-time actually. I have been needing for more assistance lately.” She was shocked. Not only was he helping her career, he was only offering a job for her at him company. And personally from the CEO himself? She seemed to be swimming in a pot of luck. “Are you sure? I’m not exactly the most qualified and I’m sure there are a lot of people who would probably do a lot better than me,” she asked, trying to see if he was just being nice. Then if he was, she could go back to her mundane life. “Are you rejecting my offer?” He asked with a little humour behind his tone. “No, no, of course not!” She waves her hands up and shook her head profusely. “Getting the job would be incredible but—” she slowly furrowed her eyes. “Aren’t you doing too much for me? I mean, you are already coming all the way just to see a newly graduate who probably has nothing for you,” she said uneasily. “That’s not true,” he said, “I’m sure you will be a great asset to the team if you work for me.” She raised an eyebrow and chuckled, “I don’t think so, I’m pretty bad at organizing and answering voice mails which is practically what a secretary has to be good at.” “Your job won’t just surround those two things, you will be doing a lot of other things too which I’m sure you will do great at. Like stapling. Or hole-punching.” She could tell he was trying to joke around and rolled her eyes at him. “Besides, I will be right beside you if you need any help.” “Wouldn’t I be the one helping you?” she laughed. He looked fazed by her and gave a small chuckle of his own. “That’s true.” The food soon came and she was met with the nostalgic aroma of her favourite pineapple rice topped with ham, spinach and caramelized pineapple. Together with his dish, a simple spicy shrimp soup, their table smelled absolutely heavenly. “Is that your favourite?” he asked. She glanced up and him and smiled, “I used to order it all the time when I came here with my parent’s.” They immediately started to dig in, and she, being the foodie that she is, took some time just to smell the dish before savouring the taste in her mouth. It was warm and soft to the tongue. A light texture but heavy flavour that dominated her senses. It was just how she remembered it. “So as we were discussing,” he started, eating the soup of his own, “What type of design did you want to study?” She stopped herself to make sure she chewed and swallowed before answering him. “Fashion design.” “Ah, that’s right. If I’m correct, I may have some numbers I could call to the owner of this brand I saw in France,” he went off. “Really?” she asked excited. They continued to talk about the various fashion designers he knew.
