Chapter 42

Chapter 42 Both of them quickly turned their heads towards the door where a very annoyed-looking Damien was standing with his arms folded. “Well,” he started. “It’s nice to finally see the CEO in his office,” the still, unidentified man, remarked. Damien rolled his eyes. “I would have been here but my employees said that there was a pest running around the company,” he replied snarky. Damien glanced between the two and felt the immense tension between them. “Funny, since I’ve heard this place has been infested since it had been built,” the man shot back. “Then I guess I should call security to escort you out of this ‘infested’ place since you seem so horrified by it,” Damien scowled. The man clicked his tongue and shifted his stance. “So, what are you here for?” Damien asked abruptly. The guy clicked his pen and put it back into his pocket. “I was going to discuss something important,” he said, staring at Daniella, “But it looks like I found something even more important.” Damien squinted his eyes and took hold of Daniella’s arm before pulling her towards him protectively. “Get your own wife, this one is mine,” Damien snarled. “Not for long,” he scoffed. Damien glared and stood in front of Daniella so she couldn’t see him. “Get the fvck out,” Damien said threateningly. Daniella stepped sideways to see the man but he just ignored Damien’s threat and started to approach her calmly. “Here’s my business card,” he said with a smile. He handed her a white minimalistic card with a simple logo embossed at the front, completely opposite to Damien’s business card. When she flipped it over, his contact details were all sprawled on the back. Including his name. “Ryan Dayne,” she said slowly. “When you have had enough, contact me,” Ryan leaned over into my ear. Damien immediately pulled her back behind him and growled at Ryan. “Fvck off,” he scowled. Ryan rolled his eyes before smiling at Daniella and exiting the office. After the door closed, she watched as Damien huffed and turned around towards her. He grabbed her by the shoulders and made a worried expression. “He didn’t do anything to you did he?” he asked, gazing at her face. “No, he didn’t,” she said stupefied. “Did he say anything?” he asked. “What were you two talking about?” “Nothing, we were just introducing ourselves,” she lied. He squinted his eyes at her, “Are you sure?” he pressed. “I’m sure,” she replied confidently. He stayed silent for a second before standing back. “Good,” he said slowly. She inwardly breathed a sigh of relief. “Now, give me that business card.” His hand gestured out for her to give it to him but she felt reluctant to do so. Ryan seemed like a person who she could ask for help about getting away from Damien. Since he was a lawyer too, she thought she ought to keep in touch with him. Unconsciously, she hid the card behind her back and stepped back. “Why?” she asked defensively. He frowned and stepped toward her with his hand still out. “Why would you want to keep that? You wouldn’t be thinking about contacting him in the future, right?” he asked menancingly. “Why can’t I?” she huffed. He glared at her, “You won’t need to contact him ever. Now give it.” She pursed her lips together. “Why are you two fighting?”
