My Bestfriend

Chapter 5 After a while, I snapped back to reality and opened the transparent door at the hospital entrance, questioning why she was here when she should be resting at home, having just returned from another country. "Yannn, why are you here? Aren't you supposed to be resting?" I asked as we walked inside the hospital, still holding her hand and her luggage. "Oh, I'm just giving something to the kids. The snacks, chocolates, souvenirs, toys, and new clothes might run out at the condo... That's all," Yanna said. She's literally the kindest, well, I'm kind too to the kids, we're both the same. But I can't believe we both love kids. Here at the hospital, children are the most beautiful people you could ever meet, fighting for their dreams and lives, striving to survive. It's sometimes pitiful how the kids are trying their best to improve their conditions. "Ah, you're the same as always. Let's go to the canteen; they're always there at noon, playing. They've been pestering me about when you'll come back... Now we can surprise them since you're here too... They really miss you," I said as we walked towards the canteen. The canteen here is quite big, extending up to the second floor. Unlike other hospitals with small dining areas, this one is spacious and bright, so the kids always gather here to eat. "Dok..." Twinkle said from her wheelchair; she has a blood disorder and is malnourished, so she mostly uses a wheelchair while undergoing therapy. I didn't even notice we were already here. "Doc?" other kids said. "Doc Ela?!" some of them stood up. "DOC YANNA!!!" They shouted, and now I know these kids are starting again. The kids ran towards us and hugged Yanna and me. One hugged me around the neck, another around the waist, and the others around the legs. But Yanna got the worst of it; her face was almost buried. She knelt down a bit to meet the kids, which is probably why. I laughed to myself because her position and the kids were so funny, and Yanna glared at me when she saw my face. "Ahem... Kids, do you want those two to run out of oxygen?" Doc Ruan said. Yanna and I are about the same age as Ruan, but I'm still considered the youngest because there's only a month between us, and I'm the last one to have a birthday. I became close to both of them when I found out they handle the kids well, and since then, I've been joining them. But unlike Yanna, Ruan is a bit introverted; her words are sharp but not so cold towards the kids. Ruan lifted some of the kids surrounding us until they were standing, while Yanna and I straightened up. When I looked in front of me, some kids were holding back tears, others had sparkling eyes, and some showed pure joy on their faces. The kids are also a bit afraid of Ruan, so they hold back because he's also quite protective, but not in a way that they hate him. "Thank you, Ruan, and don't scare the kids," I said, patting his shoulders while scolding him. "There you go again, Ela," he said, looking so done with my antics while I continued to pat him. After a while, Yanna spoke up. "Kids, remember I told you, I have something for you?" Yanna said, pointing to her luggage. Ruan and I just watched, mesmerized by what Yanna was doing for the kids. "Yes," the kids responded in unison. "Before anything else, follow me to the children's room, okay?" Yanna said. The kids smiled as they listened. Ruan and I followed the kids to the children's room. I also grabbed Twinkle's wheelchair, while Ruan helped the other kids who needed assistance walking or were in wheelchairs. "Thank you, Doc Eyah!" Twinkle said, staring at me in the eyes. She's the only one who calls me that because she wants to specialize in our names, so her nickname for us is different. "You're welcome!" I said, giving her my billion-dollar smile.
