The Missing Piece

Elira's POV “Aah,” I gasped and flickered back as every memory came running down. “Princess, are you okay?” Gladys caught me and quickly held me from falling. “Yes!” I nodded my head and pushed forward. My eyes stung with tears, and I trembled down to my core. The night breeze suddenly blew through me, and the clouds thundered angrily. I shook my head, trying to get the memories to stop coming. But they wouldn't stop. I remember everything now. You must think you are something because you are wearing that. You will stay back here and don't dare move an inch. Or I will make you scrub the floors till you pass out. My stepmother's words echoed in my ears, and fear gripped me. I, Alpha Kaelen of the BloodMoon Pack, reject you, Elira, this day before the moon goddess and many witnesses. More of the memories kept coming, and I held my ear with tears trickling down my face. “Please stop!” I whispered for mercy. “Princess Avelyn…” Gladys tapped me, and I looked back. “We are now in the presence of the Alpha King. You have to pay homage now,” she said, and I nodded my head. “Oh… uhmm…” I stuttered and looked up only to find the Alpha King on his feet, looking down at me from where he stood. He looked worried, and so did my mother. I tilted my head to the side and realized everyone was looking at me. I can't afford to mess this up. I thought to myself and quickly bowed my head. “Long live the alpha king.” I bowed my head and chanted. “Long live the alpha king!” Everyone echoed. I quickly sniffed back my tears and used my hair to wipe my face. “May I join you, father?” I asked with a bright smile. “Of course, my darling princess,” he responded, and I climbed up to sit on my chair. I was still trembling, but I managed to calm my nerves a little. “As you have all been made aware. My daughter got ill about a week ago. She woke up thanks to the prayers we offered to the moon goddess.” My father began his speech. “She demanded this celebration, and so I have invited every one of you to celebrate with the royal family,” he continued. “To princess Avelyn!” My father toasted with his glass raised up. “To princess Avelyn!” Everyone echoed. I glanced through the guests seated only to find some unfavorable glares at me. I squinted and realized they were the alphas I had defeated in the past. But there was one staring at me with his lips curved up in amusement. “Alpha Moon! I muttered under my breath and stared back until he took his gaze off me. I heaved a deep sigh. Now that I remember who I am, there's a memory still missing. How did I end up in another woman's body? I can not remember anything else after being rejected by Alpha Kaelen of our pack in such a cruel and humiliating manner. I remember my mother, my father, and the beautiful life we led before her death. I remember the day my stepmother came into our house with Mira. And how my life turned miserable after then and became even worse after my father's death. But one more thing is missing, and it feels like an important missing piece of a puzzle. “What in the world could it be?” “I would like to excuse myself for a while, Father. I will be back shortly,” I informed him, and stood up without waiting for his approval. “Take your time!” My father agreed, and I made my way outside the hall. I really need some fresh air. “Princess Avelyn, I will come with you.” Gladys stood up with me. “No, there is no need for that. I will be fine,” I said to her. “I'm sorry, but the king will be very angry with me. I must come with you,” she insisted and followed. As I stepped outside, I felt immediately suffocated and wobbly. Another memory flashed through my eyes. The same girl in white. But this time, she wasn't standing like the previous time. She lay on the floor in a pool of blood. “That is me!” I gasped and felt a tugging pain in my chest. “Aahh!” My knees buckled, and I crumbled on the floor wailing in pain. “Princess.” Gladys rushed towards me. “Take me to the palace. The people can't see me like this.” I pleaded with her, and she quickly brought me up. We arrived at the palace and headed straight to my room. “Oh my goodness, princess! You are burning up. I will get the Royal doctor.” Gladys sprang up from the bed after she laid me on the bed. “Just stay here with me.” I cajoled her, and she obliged. After a while, I felt drowsy and slipped into sleep. The sound of crushing leaves awakened my senses. Everything felt so hallow yet so real. There she is! Just who do you think you are to have laid claim on the Alpha like that? I didn't lay claim. The moon goddess made it so.” I clenched my fist in anger at how many times I had to explain something they already knew. I fought back, then the fight came, and I was shoved to my death. The tree My blood trailing and drenching my mother's white wedding gown. “Aahh!” I gasped into reality with tears streaming down my eyes. That was the missing piece of my memory. “My death!” I gritted my teeth with my fist clenched and my body trembling.
