My disobedience last night had still managed to piss Evan off.
Early the next morning, I saw the news. The Fullers' younger son had been photographed going in and out of a hotel with a young model, sparking rumors that he had already found himself a new girlfriend.
I had no choice but to call Evan and apologize.
On the ninth call, he finally picked up.
Evan spoke first.
"Wynne, if you don't want to be the stand-in, there are plenty of women who would. A stand-in has no business acting like she matters."
Before I could even say a word, he hung up.
Evan wanted to terminate our agreement.
I refused.
No one knew just how much he looked like Owen.
Although, aside from his face, there wasn't a single thing about him that was like Owen.
But that was enough for me to lose myself in the illusion.
In the end, Evan forgave me.
Maybe because, out of all his stand-ins, I really was the one who looked the most like her.
