The clink of the teacup against a saucer echoed in the room as there was no sound in the room. Beatrice leaned back in her chair tapping her foot and I could hear it resounding but it didn’t distract me from my thoughts. I couldn’t stop thinking about the last few days— the engagement, the betrayal, the realization that everything I thought I knew about Jack was all a lie. I held onto the warm mug tightly, hoping the heat would calm the cold that had taken residence in my chest. Beatrice sat across me, her eyes looked with concern and something else.
