"Get into the car, Stella." James's icy, hard-voiced authority sent a shiver of fear along my spine. I wanted to protest, scream, and run away, but the blinding ferocity in James's eyes pinned me to the spot. His anger pulsed around and through me, its reality completely impossible to ignore. "No, I am not going anywhere with you," I said, my voice shaking even as I tried to sound firm. He didn't give me the chance to protest anymore.
