•~ ROY LAYNE ~•
The intoxication that woman held for Lucien was infuriating me. How intensely she stared at him, filled with oh-so-damn admiration.
And to break that rhythm of hers, I gave her the punishment I found befitting.
An hour had passed, the shoot was done. Everyone had left except for me as I was sharing a drink with Lucien who chuckled at my wicked smirk.
“Aren't you going to leave?” He asked casually, offering me a drink.
“No, let her wait outside and realize…”
Taking a sip of my drink, I returned a determined glance, enunciating darkly to piss him off.
“That she is my prey,”
Clicking his glass against mine, he returned the same expression and counter-questioned.
“But the question remains- for how long?”
“Accept it, brother, you are going to lose for the first time,” I winked, inclining on the stool nearby.
As much of a lethal man he had become, I doubt he had faced defeat to which he chuckled in return.
“Winning and losing are a part of life, I have lost countless times too but this is the only time failure is not an option for me. At. All. Cost.”
Taken aback by his resolve, I placed the glass away, knitting my brows together.
“Why? What did she do to you?”
“She was among those people I marked as my initial targets,”
I had always been intrigued but he never told me about those prey or what led him to that malicious brink.
“Why? What happened at the Dawn Academy?”
Flashing a hysterical smile, he threw the glass on the ground, shattering it to pieces while declaring ambiguously.
“At Dawn Academy, dawn never came. Only nightmares remains,”
“You know what? Your talks are going over my head. Whatever the reason is, I can assure your defeat,”
Waving my hand to shrug off his dramatic reaction, I rolled my eyes, earning a chuckle from him as he patted my back.
“Don’t be so arrogant, Roy, it will only take me a heartbeat to defeat you,”
Considering me and my words frivolous, that wiped my amusement.
‘Does he still think I am weak?’
Thinking sourly, I grabbed my coat and wore it, asking rudely, without bothering to look at him.
“Then why haven’t you?”
Only to receive the undesirable reply- like always.
“You are my beloved brother, you are the only person in this world I am incapable of hurting after all,”
“... I am leaving,”
Muttering, not wanting to entangle myself in his talks, I left after being satisfied that I had taught her a perfect lesson to not mess during work hours.
With my hands in my pockets, I walked out and saw Garnet sitting on the ground, leaning against my car, rubbing her hands together while quivering.
Furrowing my brows at her state, I called sternly, “Miss Beth?”
“S-Sir?”
Gasping at my arrival, she stood up quickly, brushing the dust from her attire. Still startled due to what happened.
“Why didn’t you sit in the car? I know winter has just started but it’s still cold here,” I asked casually,
“T-The car was unlocked?!”
My jaw dropped in disbelief, “You were standing here in the cold all this time?”
“Y-Yes!” She made an almost crying face.
“Well, that explains why you are shivering and your face is red.”
Nodding while shaking as I observed her small form from up close, gaining momentary amusement as something atrocious elicited-
“I guess this is your lesson to not mix your personal feelings and meddle in my work again.”
Lowering her gaze from dejection, she apologized again, “I am sorry,”
“Now come,”
Snapping my fingers, I gestured to her to come as I turned on the heater quickly. Although it made me feel suffocated, she was shaking badly.
At this rate, she would end up sick.
“Is it better now? Do you need my jacket?” I asked casually, noticing she was rubbing her hands constantly.
“No, I am fine…”
I glanced at her from time to time.
What a dumb one.
Could have whined about the cold and sit in a luxurious car but no, she decided to be in chilly weather.
The longer my eyes stopped at her, the sooner a chuckle escaped my lips, shaking my head.
She heard and asked worriedly, “Is there something wrong, Sir?”
“Nothing,”
Smirking, I stopped the car somewhere, utterly amused by her for the time being.
“Wait here,”
She nodded as I went to the nearby shop, and bought some essentials which I would like to take in case I got a cold that could help in soothing.
“Here, take it,” I handed her a bag, surprising her.
“What’s this, Sir?”
“Some basic medicines in case you get a cold and my favorite coffee sachets and biscuits. Make yourself some at home, it will help,”
I attempted to give a cold reply and started the drive again because by all means, I mixed my personal intentions and did this to her.
“... Thank you,” She smiled faintly, clutching the bag close.
Not thinking deeply about it, I couldn’t care less about it, I just didn’t want her to skip work. My work has been going rapidly for the past few months.
I couldn’t afford her leave.
As we were about to reach the office, I received a call from home, from the butler to be exact, indicating something unsavory must have happened again.
“Hello?” Sighing, I picked the call.
“Sir, Mr. Layne is drunk again and hurting Mrs. Layne,”
Hearing it made my jaw clenched, ruining the two seconds of amusement I managed to attain.
Since Garnet was sitting next to me, I had to act normal and replied, “Okay, I am coming. Did you call Lucien?”
“No, not yet,”
“Good, don’t tell him. I will be there,”
Overflowing with frustration at one unbearable information, my hand curled rigidly as I stopped the car at the side gradually.
Perplexed, my expressions changed to an infuriated one as I lowered my head for two seconds, mentally preparing myself for the confrontation.
“Are you alright, Sir?” Garnet asked worriedly.
“Miss Beth,”
“Yes?”
“Cancel all my plans, you are dismissed for today as well. Out. I need to go somewhere important,”
