We both got out and Mr. Layne wrapped his arms around my waist. I felt distressed by his iron grip on my waist but taking a deep breath and we walked inside.
I put on a decent smile, still impotent to comprehend; Why the hell was I here?!
"Roy!"
A soft voice of Georgia was called as she rushed and hugged him, pushing me out of the way instantly.
“Woah,”
"Oh, Lucien's girlfriend, you’re here too?"
She smiled at me, waving her hand. My heart felt strange when she called me that.
Why did she call me that anyways?
"Georgia. She is not his girlfriend. She is ‘my’ personal assistant." Mr. Layne told her and God how he emphasizes on 'my' was oddly enticing.
"Then why is she here?" She asked, putting her hand on her waist, frowning.
"She is my partner for tonight."
He smirked, holding my hand and pulling me closer, causing me to stiff and stand like a robot with no expression.
"Oh, well, who can stop you? Good luck~"
Georgia winked at me, also waving her hand at me, I was startled by her actions. My soul can feel it, he had ominous plans hidden in him for me.
He then introduced me to a few people as 'his partner'. His hand was glued to my waist and no matter how much I tried, his fingers latched to my waist in place of a shackle.
But I noticed one thing, the way he talked, it was so polite and bewitching. He could make anyone do anything for him on the snap of his fingers.
If I wasn’t miserable that day, I would have blindly given into him.
For now, I had only two words for this evening; boring and disturbing.
The stylist mentioned a gossip group and I was their topic. They were discussing Roy Layne’s assistant being his partner of the evening too.
“They are talking about us,”
“So? Everyone talks about me all the time. Am I to stop and listen?”
“Yeah, right, as if I will be seeing them again anyways,”
After a while, he finally removed his grip around me when an old couple came and by looking at them, I guessed they were his parents.
"Who is she?"
The blue-eyed old lady, looking similar to Mr. Layne asked.
He smiled tenderly, a genuine smile adorning his aesthetic feature and moved to her and put his hands over her shoulder.
"She is my partner for tonight. Garnet Beth. Angelic, isn’t she?"
The smile and shine he had on his face when he talked to his Mother was inexplicable. He was delighted.
"Really? Hello, Dear. I am Roy's mother, Melody Layne."
I flashed a sweet smile and replied, "Good evening, Ma'am. Pleased to meet you."
And the person, I guessed as his father, seemed displeased by everything.
“Hello, Sir. Good evening.”
“Hmph.” He scoffed.
Arthur Layne, the one my boss would NEVER work with. After separating the workline with him, he never returned to him.
“He is not important, Garnet. You meet my Mother,” He said, glaring at Mr. Layne but flashing sweet smiles at his Mother.
“You love humiliating your own Father, don’t you?” His Father growled.
“I didn’t lie.”
He rolled eyes and I stood awkwardly.
‘How can he be so disrespectful towards his Father?’
"Hey, Roy!”
Lucien popped up from behind, lighting the tension in the air.
“Ah!”
I gasped, stumbling upon my steps, falling on his hard chest as he held my shoulders to support me with a grin.
“Oh, I didn't know Garnet is with you.>
Afraid, I hastily got away from him, recalling the last meeting with Mr. Layne that sent shivers down my spine and anxiously held my elbow.
“Ah, seeing you made my evening better, Garnet."
“What?” All of them asked at the same time.
I saw him grinning at me, bewildering me at the strange energy present in their family, not daring to lift my gaze as my heart started to beat swiftly.
"Well, Dear brother, I am borrowing your partner for the rest of my night." He said, offering me his hands.
“Um, can I go, Sir?” I asked.
I glanced at Mr. Layne bashfully, thinking whether I should take Lucien's hands or not.
Deep down, I wanted to. I prefer Lucien's presence over him but I didn’t want to experience another harsh scolding.
“Why ask him? Roy, did you say something?”
“What am I? A puppeteer or something?” He scoffed.
“I am Sir’s partner, Lucien. I think I should ask him,” I reasoned sweetly, still waiting for his approval.
"Hmm. Go, go," He hummed, rolling his eyes off. A smile crept upon my lips and I took his hands and excused ourselves, delighted to be in his proximity.
He was looking no doubt handsome in a black shirt with black pants and coat, two buttons opened, allowing his hair to sway beautifully.
“You look exquisite, Garnet,”
“Thank you,”
He smirked, taking me with him, "Good to see you here. Or else I would be coming for you."
I chuckled and asked, "Why is that?"
"Maybe to take you on a date."
He chuckled, pushing me a little from his shoulder. I stopped as a blush rose to my cheeks, my heart picked its pace.
"Uh.." I nervously trailed off, looking elsewhere, unsure how to react.
He laughed a little and took my hand, "Shall we dance, Milady?" He asked decently.
I raised my gaze and looked at his enchanting emerald eyes, I nodded shyly, “Sure.”
And we went to the dance floor and began to waltz. As we were dancing I felt eerie. I couldn't meet his gaze but I could feel his gaze fixed on me which gave me some strange yet satisfying feeling.
“Your beauty has enhanced greatly, Garnet.” He whispered.
I let out a soft voice of astonishment when Lucien pulled me close to him.
“What?” I looked at him, smirking at me, confused at his compliment.
“I love to grasp ancient chattels in my palm.” He whispered.
My heart rate enhanced, I gulped when my eyes bore into his.
“I am not a chattel, Lucien.”
Looking at me with a glint of dark yet mystifying gaze, his smirk grew dark, “Doesn’t matter to whom you are, my desire to hold you in my palm will remain the same.”
I want to drown in his eyes and get lost but his words were more disturbing than his Brother’s.
“You cannot own me. Why are you talking like that, Lucien?” I asked, laughing faintly timidly, parting slowly from his tempting eyes.
“I apologize but I don’t know how to twist words like my Brother. I am a possessive man.”
The way he made me feel was irresistible but his words were concerning and I couldn’t bear them.
"Lucien, stop. Don’t try to scare me." I spoke slowly, feeling somehow startled by his smirk and the look of malevolence in his eyes.
"Do you remember Garnet, I told you we have a long relationship from the past." He asked, leaning in and speaking in a low voice.
I gave him a hesitant nod, “What about it?”
The music changed and he moved his both hands and held my waist firmly as I wrapped my arms around his neck, distressed by his sudden change of aura.
"You were quite famous back in Dawn Academy, remember? That hellish nightmare." He whispered in my ears, halting my very steps at his statement.
“What…?”
I prayed desperately that I heard him wrong.
“The Ten Cadavers,”
My body stiffed, a shallow breath escaped my lips, my eyes widened in sorrow when I heard it. No… Anything but that. They were monsters.
The past I left behind, I didn’t want to remember it at all cost. I didn’t want anyone to dig up the old scars still present fresh on my chest.
“Lucien…”
Feeling terrified, I looked at Lucien with pure appall but that insensitive bastard was smirking at me.
"Don't bring it, please."
“The ones who considered themselves dead inside. And you, my darling,”
He held me more close to him, pressing his hard body into mine as I began to quiver in dread. He managed to steal my breaths with his words.
“Were among those f*****g monsters. You and your damn friend Lesley. Remember?”
And then stopped right at my ear, evoking a fright I hadn’t experienced in a devilishly long time.
“Just think how easy it is for me to ruin your whole career, your life, with your secrets,”
“Lu-Lucien, no, no, please-”
"Do as I f*****g command then." He scowled seriously, giving me a warning stare.
The tribulation he brought upon me crumbled the last ounce of strength I gathered before leaving the orphanage.
Defeated, with tears filling, all on my grasp was to plead, for my tomorrow.
“Please, Lucien. Don’t talk about them, I-I had no choice but to join them… I didn’t mean to do anything…” I whispered, shutting my eyes.
“I don’t f*****g care, dear,”
He moved to my neck and kissed it slightly, moving his lips intensely while my mind was too scared to perceive anything else.
“Please don’t ruin my career, I beg you, Lucien,” I begged, willing to do it on my knees to save my future from my past.
“Please, please, please,”
“I won’t but your record will. Who would give an addict a job?” He hissed.
My grip around his neck tightened, and stopped the dance abruptly but he didn’t let me pull away, locking me against his skin.
His hands were moving all over me, waist, neck, behind, I couldn’t lift a finger to push him. Subsequently, I gave up, allowing him to probe me.
“Ah, don’t perturbate, Your secret is safe with me.”
I lowered my gaze not being able to look him dead in the eye. He pulled away and spoke huskily, sinking me into fright.
“As long as you obey me.”
He warned with retreating steps, freezing my very soul under the ambience of striking terror that was surely going to raze my life.
"See you soon, Garnet."
