It was vacuous of me to not realize his motive.
My heart was beating at an abnormal pace. My mind was filled with nothing but apprehensive thoughts, with consternation of not knowing his malevolent intentions before.
“Dammit, dammit, dammit.” I whispered under my breath, shaking my one leg violently, ruining the stylist’s concentration.
"You look stressed." The stylist asked.
Yes, he sent a stylist along with a dress for me to get ready. Feeling utterly scared, I gulped hard.
“Please continue,”
Understanding now that he was doing all I considered ‘pissing me off’ just to take revenge upon me by making me miserable.
To make me feel the sensation of the touch I rejected by a slap over and over again.
A. God. Damn. Slap.
“Is it done yet?”
“Almost, please stop shaking,”
“Oh, sorry about that,”
‘In the desperate need of money, I signed the contract, he knew, he used it against me. He played his card flawlessly.’
And now I was stuck, bounding myself with him for the next three years and not being able to tell anyone about whatever happens between us.
“Is everything alright? You look like you are being forced to go there,” She cracked a joke.
“No, that’s not it. I am just nervous…”
I smiled faintly, not lifting my gaze, stopping my leg from moving continuously.
Not wanting to think about what he must be planning to do with me at the party. My lips dried, my mind was clouded with unwanted feelings.
“It’s alright, trust me, such sophisticated parties are just boring unless you like gossiping or making new contacts for your business which I doubt you have,”
She laughed a little, finishing my look.
I gave her a hesitant nod, she put her hand over my shoulder and leaned in with a smirk.
"And besides, girls die to go with him, be grateful that you are the lucky one for tonight." That was the problem.
I just passed her a faint smile.
"I am just nervous." I repeated my words.
She gave my shoulder an assuring squeeze and in that moment, Lesley entered with her face deep red, mouth gaped, stunned.
"G-Garnet.. Mr. L-Layne is here to pick you up." She stammered, pointing at the door.
“What?!” I whisper-yelled.
My eyes widened when I heard it, my heart skipped a beat. I didn't know he was that serious to take me with him, augmenting my fears.
I stood up and looked at my reflection in the mirror for the final time before rushing out to see for myself.
“No, he can’t do this,”
I could feel my salary would be imprinted on the maroon mermaid gown I was wearing, surprisingly exactly to my fitting well, showing a long slit on the left side.
I bit my cheek and in the unbearable red pump, I walked out of the room only to see an ancient Greek God before me.
“Mr. Layne, you are stepping out of the line-”
Not listening, being on the phone, he pointed his finger dominantly at me to stop, not even bothering to spare a glance.
“I know, we will be there soon.”
My heart felt like it would leap out of my chest as I found myself gawking at his irresistible form. He was wearing a black three button suit jacket with a gray waistcoat.
“Oh my-” I haven't seen him wearing a waistcoat before and honestly it looks so perfect on him, showing his toned chest.
“Oh, I am not dying to waste my time either- Yes, with a partner- No, not Hailey. She was busy,” Liar.
His usual dominant aura surrounding him, a chained brooch starting from his lapel to his front pocket. He was without a doubt, the most handsome man I had ever seen.
By looking at him, I could tell we were going to a very sophisticated party which was clearly not made for someone as low as me.
I understand now why Lesley was blushing like that.
“S-Sir.” I called him to get his attention.
“Okay, talk to you later. I am quite busy.” He cut the call, “Yeah?”
I quickly turned my head away when his eyes fell upon me. My heart fluttered with strange sensations and I found myself losing his beauty.
And those eyes, how they were shining, to t****l any heart by one glimpse.
I mentally scolded myself for admiring him because he was the same person who wanted revenge from me.
His eyes met mine and my voice came out in a low tone, "Good Evening, Sir."
"Evening, Miss Beth, Shall we leave?"
"Yes. "
He nodded and then turned to look at Lesley who was still stunned and blushing madly.
He looked at her with a faint smirk, scanning her from top to bottom that Lesley stilled even more.
“If fate would allow, I will see you again.” He spoke in his manipulative tone.
He is such a player!
“We should go, Sir.”
I called him before this man could send my poor friend to hospital.
“Sure.” He then motioned me to go first as we left.
What?
‘I bet he paid so much for my getup but didn’t say one sentence, not even a fake one.’
A shiver went down my spine when I found that we were alone. We both sat in the car, I tugged the strand of my hair behind my ear, feeling nervous being alone with him.
‘Was I not pretty enough?’
I felt his sharp azure gaze at me, looking at me with a look that distressed me to no extent.
I couldn’t link and kept looking down at my laps shaking in vexation.
"Garnet. Look at me." He ordered.
My heart skipped a beat when he spoke my name in his deep commanding voice.
I hesitantly raised my head to connect my timid orbs with his, contemplating my features.
He smiled but wasn’t like his devilish ones as he spoke in a charmingly sincere voice, "You are looking beautiful."
That was it? I had heard this man speak unbelievable phrases praising one’s beauty.
"T-Thank you.. For everything, for the dress, m-makeup and picking me up-"
He cut me off after noticing my tension.
"Are you nervous?" He asked softly.
“What else do you expect?” I nodded, lowering my gaze, unable to stare in his cunning web.
"Don't be, just be your usual self." He assured me.
“No one is going to eat, although you will surely be bored so bear with it.” He said nonchalantly.
"Yes, Sir." I said faintly.
His smile faded, disliking my wrong choice of words.
“Sir?”
