It was a Saturday morning when I walked around a street corner in Shinjuku. The weather was nice, but I couldn’t shake off the mix of excitement and nervousness I was feeling.
(Well, of course. I’m about to meet my fiancé at a café—a place my parents chose for us to meet.)
(...I’ll be okay.)
I held a piece of paper tightly in my hand and checked the address again, just to make sure I was in the right place.
(Mother said this café isn’t very popular and usually quiet... but perfect for something like this.) I mumbled while continuing to walk.
I arrived at ordinary looking café with no much of impression.
Soon, I arrived at a plain-looking café. It didn’t really leave much of an impression.
(Is this the right place?)
After taking a deep breath, I opened the door, and the small bell above it rang softly.
As I stepped inside, I felt the warm and calm atmosphere of the café. The smell of fresh coffee filled the air, which helped me relax a little. The lighting was soft, and the chairs looked comfy.
(Ahh... this does feel like a nice place for something important.) I thought, making a calm expression.
I looked around and quickly noticed a group of five handsome men. They stood out right away—each with a unique charm and aura.
(Hmm…? Wh-what’s with all these people? I thought this place was supposed to be quiet?)
They were deep in conversation, but when I walked past them, they turned to look at me. I felt my cheeks grow warm, so I quickly looked away and went to sit down.
Just as I settled down, a familiar face caught my attention. He looked a lot like my mom.
(Maybe... her big brother she always talks about?)
He smiled kindly and said, "Come here." I felt calm near him. He smiled kindly and said, “Come here.” I felt calm next to him. He smiled and said,
“I think Hina-chan told you about me. I’m Makoto Toshiro, your mom’s older brother.”
(Just like I thought)
It was nice that he knew who I was before I asked.
I stood up, bowed politely, and said, “I’m Sayuri Miyazaki,” softly.
He laughed a little, and I was confused. I asked, “Is something wrong?”
“Oh, nothing,” he replied with a smile. “Your mother called me last night about your engagement. She’s happy for you, but a little worried you didn’t tell them until after it was already decided. But seeing you here, looking so happy, I don’t think there’s anything to worry about.” His warm words and smile helped me relax, and I smiled back, feeling thankful but still nervous.
