Chapter 17

568 Words
Rose “Congratulations Alpha.” Her mate said in a deep husky voice his head bowed. His blond waves falling forward covering his mesmerising deep, ocean blue eyes. She stared at the top of his head waiting for him to straighten so she could stare into them and drown in him for a moment but when he stood straight his eyes were closed and he quickly walked away from her. She felt so broken. Her mate was gone, out of sight in an instance with her Beta and Gamma. At least they knew each other and she could find out about him from them. “Where are you going.” Rose mind linked Harry and Luke. “Jimmy isn't feeling too good. I said he could sleep in the Beta suit tonight. I don’t think he wants to be alone right now. Connor just stole his girlfriend and is probably f*****g her senseless right now in their room. Do you need me to come back when I have got him settled or have you got everything under control?” Her heart fell and shattered into a million pieces. Her mate had just scented her out, she knew he had even if he hadn’t called out to her, but he wasn’t interested in even talking to her because he was upset at losing his girlfriend. “No everything is under control just don’t stay up all night drinking. There is an emergency council meeting at 9 tomorrow. I need to brief the pair of you before it, so say meet at half six in my office then we can get breakfast together like usual.” They had breakfast in the pack dinning hall at 7 every morning. She had spent most of her time before becoming Alpha hiding away and only a few pack members actually knew anything about her, but she was trying to rectify that now by being as approachable as possible and spending time surrounded by her pack members when they could grab a quick word if they needed anything. “If your friend is an Alpha or delegate for their pack make sure they are in a fit state for the meeting as well. It won’t look good on them or their pack if they are a mess tomorrow.” “Yes Alpha.” They replied. Rose let the other guests know about the meeting in the morning and the ball wound down. Rose walked back to the pack house with several other Alphas avoiding the one particular Alpha she had nothing to say to. She said good night to them on the ground floor where the guest rooms were and made her way up the stairs. She passed the Beta and Gamma floor where the scent of her mate lingered faintly, then up to the Alpha floor. She paused on the first step up from the Beta and Gamma floor landing. The smell of their mate was so very enticing to Astrid and she considered knocking on the Beta’s door and asking her mate if he was ok. He had lost his girlfriend to her mate and Rose knew how much that could hurt. She wanted to comfort him and tell him it would be ok, she was his mate and they could work things out but she didn’t know him or know anything about him. She couldn’t promise him something she couldn’t give.
