Chapter 3

1096 Words
Sabrina's POV I slowly opened my eyes, feeling I was somewhere unfamiliar. But wait, I just remembered what I had just experienced. This surprised me a little. "Am I still alive?" I muttered to myself. I remembered the car's headlights flashing and the sound of the horn ringing loudly until it was all dark, but I didn't remember anything. I looked around, surveying the completely unfamiliar room. "Where am I?" My gaze stopped, falling on the man in the room with me. A tall man with neatly combed hair. Who is he? I don't even know him. "You're sick, and how could you leave here?" The man spoke in a cold voice, and his eyes had a hint of emphasis. I observed him deeply. I didn't know who he was, but I was sure that he was the one who had helped me... I tried to get up from the bed, but this was quite difficult for me to do. I don't know what happened to me that I was so weak. I knew it was the effect of my miscarriage, which hadn't even appropriately recovered. The more I forced it, the more pain I felt. Apparently, the man understood my condition. He walked over, put one hand on my back, and slowly helped me to sit up. Not only that, he placed a large pillow behind my back. "Are you comfortable?" He asked. The man was currently sitting in front of me. I gulped and nodded my head. This was an awkward situation. At such a close distance, I could see the sharp look in his eyes. His appearance was elegant, and he had a branded suit. He wasn't an ordinary man. He even looked very domineering. Before he continued talking, the man took the water from the nightstand and gave it to me. "Drink this. You'll feel better." I awkwardly accepted it. I gulped it down slowly. But I didn't shift my gaze to scrutinize him. "Is it better?" The man asked again, making our gazes clash again. It was so strange that I was getting attention from a stranger I had just met. Not only did he help me, but he also gave me a lot of attention that I rarely got from Daniel. You shouldn't have to remember him anymore. "Thank you for helping me," I ventured to say. In fact, I was sure that I had inconvenienced him. After hearing my words, the man smiled wryly. "You don't need to say that. I was even surprised to find you on the street." The man sat in front of me, his jaw firm. One eyebrow was raised. "What are you doing? Shouldn't you be busy with the wedding?" "You know, I came here to attend your wedding and Daniel's, " the man said excitedly. The man's words made me even more surprised. "Wait, do you know me?" "Yes, of course. You're Sabrina, right?" He answered quickly. Looking at me sternly for reassurance. This is strange. However, it was my first meeting, and we didn't know each other. I wondered if I might have been knocked unconscious and forgotten some people. But I quickly confirmed that I didn't know him. The man gave off a cold impression in every gaze. "Why are you like that? You shouldn't wonder." he crossed one leg. His answer brought me out of my reverie. I just realized that I'm currently staring at him quite intensely. And I immediately dispersed my gaze to her. "But how could you know me, when I don't know you at all. Isn't this the first time we've met?" I asked everything that left me in doubt. The man slightly rolled up his suit sleeve, and without looking at me, he spoke, "I am Caleb Jones." Afterward, he looked back at me coldly. "Caleb Jones?" I repeated my sentence and looked at him intently. The name seemed familiar to me. But I needed time to remember it. After wrestling with it in my mind, I actually remembered it. Yes, he was Daniel's step-uncle. Although we had never met before, Daniel often complained about his step-uncle. Daniel also said that his uncle was like a monster. But after this meeting, I could tell that Caleb wasn't the man Daniel said he was. Look, he's a handsome and patient-looking man. He's highly charismatic. So why did Daniel say he was like a monster? I swallowed. "Did Daniel not say anything to you?" I asked seriously. But I quickly realized that it was a stupid question. You shouldn't have to ask this question. Of course, Daniel wouldn't proudly tell me about his affair with my own sister. "The entire Jones family has heard about the marriage. And it's not a secret anymore." Caleb said coldly. It was obvious that he didn't know anything about Daniel's affair. Who has heard about it? In fact, both of them are trying their hardest to cover it up. My face turned grim. It was the wedding I had dreamed of for so long. That painful image came back to fill my brain, making my chest tight. Reluctantly, I spoke, "The wedding plan has failed." When I brought it up, there was no more crying. It's just that I can't cover up this hatred. Caleb looked at me seriously. Apparently, he was surprised by my explanation. "What do you mean? Are you kidding?" "Do I look like I'm joking?" I showed a minor annoyance on my face. And re-emphasized to him. "It's all over." My words sounded very clear. The man looked at me with an expression that was hard to explain. "But why?" Actually, I didn't expect him to ask why. But I knew this would cause confusion. Reluctantly, I explained everything. "She had an affair with my own sister. He ended it by saying he wouldn't marry me." My heart sank again as I gave Caleb the explanation. I hoped he wouldn't ask any more questions. Besides being painful, I didn't have the energy to explain everything. Caleb listened seriously. In a moment, his facial expression seemed to change. I don't know what he was thinking, or maybe he was pitying me. I didn't care. Because, in reality, my story is sad. My relationship had to end at the hands of my own sister. And I also knew that this was Daniel's folly. Caleb didn't say anything, but at that moment, he extended his hand to me. I looked at him in confusion. But without waiting for consent, he touched my hand. His face became grave. "Then marry me."
