April was walking back from the town's library, she had promised her mom that she would be home before 7pm to make dinner.
She knew deep down that she shouldn't have taken the alleyway, but it was faster and quicker,so she decided to take that lane. The alley was quiet except for the chirping of crickets, and rats rustling through waste cans.
“You shouldn't be here, you know that.”An icy voice said.
April turned swiftly and she could see a shadow standing at the beginning of the alley.
“And you shouldn't be following strangers.” She retorted and shot him a stare.
He didn't even flinch,a smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth, “Stranger?, don't you think that's a little too harsh?”
“What else do I call someone I don't even know?” She said sarcastically.
“You don't know me yet but you will soon.”
April scoffed loudly and smiled.
“You're joking right?”
“Too bad I'm not,I am actually serious.”
She stepped back slowly.
“I should get going.”She stuttered and started walking away.
He nodded once, like he had anticipated that.
“I'll see you soon, sooner than you think.”
Before she could turn to ask another question,he turned and walked away, disappearing into the darkness like he had never been there – leaving her heart heavy and full of questions she wasn't ready to answer.
