As the youngest Staff Sergeant ever to work there, the K-Division headquarters in Edmonton assigned Mark to the nearby Sherwood Park detachment when he arrived in Alberta. The morning of his aunt’s murder began with an uneventful litany of misdemeanors and more serious offenses. An accident on Baseline Road led to a DUI charge for the driver, who staggered into the station, was booked, and let go on his own recognizance as it was a first offense.
