No one inside the van moved. The red laser dots trembled slightly across the metal walls, drifting over our hands, our faces, the narrow table between us. Outside, engines idled. Several vehicles. Maybe more. The man’s voice came again through a speaker somewhere outside the van. Calm. Controlled. “Step out slowly.” Mira’s expression hardened. “They tracked us faster than expected,” she muttered. “That’s reassuring,” I said dryly. The second intruder near the front turned slightly. “We can still push through.” “With what?” I asked. “They outnumber us,” Mira said quietly.
