I couldn’t believe my luck! My captor is a vampire who wants me as a pet! I should have known by the strength with which he held onto me. In reality, I was too exhausted to notice anything of importance.
When he took me into his home, I immediately began thinking of a way to escape. I couldn’t believe this vampire was carrying me around like I was his damn pet chihuahua. I can’t help wondering if he would be murmuring his words of reassurance if he knew that I wasn’t your average wolf, but his sworn enemy.
If this were any other supernatural being, I might find the situation comical. The little whimpers he was responding to were those of my wolf. Lena wasn’t used to maintaining this form for as long as we had. “Hold on, girlfriend, we’ll get out of here as soon as possible.”
Would he kill me instantly? Would he torture, then kill me? Would he hold me prisoner and try to ransom me back to my pack? The possibilities were endless, and there was one thing I knew for sure: I wasn’t going to wait around and find out. I would need to watch for the first opportunity and make my escape. I just had to be patient and ready to run the moment an opening presented itself.
I almost felt bad with the childlike way he defended having a pet to his human servant and the other vampires. But I had to tuck any feelings other than hate for my sworn enemy away. He wouldn’t be kind at all if he knew my true identity.
Listening to the banter between him and those he called his brothers reminded me of how Tyler was with the other warriors, and it rekindled my anger. I would have to hang onto those feelings so I could fight my way out of this situation if necessary.
Ezra seemed to be the sweetest of the three of them, but I imagine he would be just as vulgar as the other two, if given a chance. I was appalled at the casual way one of the vampires was openly feeding in the living room. Then the third one was getting a blowjob while everyone else was just going about their business, that was kind of disgusting.
When the servant came into the room with food, as enticing as it smelled, I had to take the chance given to me. Destiny set the food dish on the floor, and as soon as Ezra put me on the floor, I ran.
The stone floor of the cave home was surprisingly very smooth, which made getting momentum difficult at first. Then, once I found my footing, I darted toward the door we came in through. Unfortunately, that meant charging at the servant, who shrieked and tripped over herself trying to get out of my way.
“Grab her!” a male voice shouted.
Suddenly, the one Ezra called Mateo was in front of me, so I quickly changed direction before he could grab hold of me. I tried darting to the left, but I quickly changed course because Adrian was there with his pants hanging off his hips. At least he had the decency to tuck himself back in.
That left me having to charge back toward Ezra. It wasn’t ideal, and I may or may not get past him, but I wasn’t ready to give up just yet. I thought I was moving fairly quickly and was aiming for between his legs. I’m fast, unfortunately, he was quicker.
“Gotcha! You have nothing to worry about, my beautiful wolf. No one here wishes you any harm. I promise you will be the happiest little poochie this side of the Rio Grande,” he crooned, scooping me into his arms.
Damn my luck! How am I going to escape from these assholes when they are as fast as I am? I have to think of a better solution to get out of here. Maybe this wasn’t the right time, considering I am tired and weak from traveling the last day and a half, plus I have maintained wolf form all this time. Lena wasn’t used to me staying in wolf form this long, and it is beginning to weaken her.
What’s crazier is this stupid vampire carrying me around like I am genuinely a beloved pet. It’s endearing in a weird sort of way, but ludicrous at the same time. “Let’s go to my room, maybe you will feel safer with fewer people around. You have to eat, girl, and this steak has to taste better than anything you have to catch and kill,” he said, bending over and picking the bowl up off the floor.
I have to admit the thought of eating steak after eating squirrel and lizard did sound mouth-watering. The problem is that in his room, I will be further boxed in with no way to escape. Lena let out a whimper of protest, but then our damn stomach betrayed us both by rumbling very loudly. “See, beautiful, I was right. You do need to eat. You’ll feel better with a full stomach and a nice soft bed to sleep in,” Ezra crooned.
When Ezra opened the door, I wasn’t sure what I was expecting, but the sight in front of me wasn’t it. There was a king-sized bed that took up the majority of the room. There was also a large overstuffed couch and a ridiculously huge flat screen television; a bachelor pad of epic proportions. There was a fireplace in the corner. I'm not sure why vampires would care about such things, but it added ambience to the room, done in rich jewel tones.
“Here we go, girl, you can eat right here in front of the fire. The rug is pretty comfortable, feels nice on the skin, though I don’t imagine that you would notice the fur with fur of your own,” he chuckled, setting the bowl on the floor first and then me.
I wanted to refuse to eat, but the smell of the seared meat had me drooling. The first bite tasted heavenly, and before I knew it, I had eaten the whole thing. “That’s a good girl. You were really hungry, weren’t you? There’s plenty more where that came from, you’ll only have the finest things to eat,” he said, scratching between my ears.
I lay staring into the fire with my head on my paws and his hand stroking down my back, through my fur. As dangerous as this situation is, being petted was relaxing, and my eyes grew heavy. I guess it won’t hurt to sleep for just a little while. Ezra seems harmless enough. When I wake, I will start planning another way to make my escape.
